New to Raynaud's, does this sound like it? I have always been a cold person, all the time. I noticed this fall my toes purple at times, I didn't think anything of it, they didn't hurt or bother me. A couple weeks ago I was in the grocery store on a cold day, and 2 fingers on each hand got so numb, wouldn't warm up. I got home and they were white, then one of the tips turned blue! I looked this up and Raynaud's came up. I called my OB, thinking it was hormonal (that seems like all that's happening these days). It started happening more often, and I decided I could like with it. Then a few days ago I worked out, went to the grocery store with gloves, but had an attack. Soon after my left foot felt kind of numb. Later in the day both feed felt a little fuzzy feeling, and then it seemed like my whole leg, especially if I would cook dinner, sit to eat, back to clean, sit to relax....just always felt heavier like I had been kneeling. I also looked up low ferratin, as I had that last year at this time and I haven't been on iron. So, in the last couple days my legs got heavier, and then I feel a prickle tingle every now and then on various places in my body. I sent a message to my OB and she said it sounds like Raynaud's, but gave me the name of a Rheumatologist. Anyway, I'm freaking out, thinking I also have something else that's going on. It really came out of nowhere. Advice? Thanks! |
Re: New to Raynaud's, does this sound like it? I have Reynauds's second to Multiple Sclerosis. Most people have Reynaulds second to something... In my case, my feet and fingers turn white, not purple. Usually they get dark red (maybe purple) as they warm up and the blood begins to circulate again.. it is incredibly painful and keeping them warm does nothing to help although I can tell you that my days of wearing flip flops in the grocery store are long gone...if I dont wear socks and shoes, they start hurting the moment I step inside any highly airconditioned store. In the winter, wearing insulated boots keeps me comfortable during the day but as soon as I remove my boots, I put on a pair of slippers over my socks. Reynaulds is a circulatory problem and it is very easily diagnosed. See the Rheumy or see a good podiatrist. Either can do the test to tell you if it is Reynaulds, although the Rheumy can further test you for any reasons why this might have come on so suddenly.. Good luck. |
Re: New to Raynaud's, does this sound like it? It's not always second to something else. My mother has had that for at least 30 or 40 years and that's all she has. About 20 yrs ago it started happening to me and really freaked me out. It would happen to a couple of fingers at a time, toes and sometimes my nose. I worried myself almost to death about it and of course after googling it I was pretty sure I was dying. I don't know if you're a smoker, but I was. I finally quit smoking a couple of years later and within a year it quit completely. It has to do with blood flow and apparently mine was restricted due to the 2 packs of cigs I was smoking daily. Maybe you could try taking a baby aspirin daily and see if that helps. Good luck and don't read more into it than there is. :) |
