Dark purple colored toenails

Hi,
I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and was told that I might possibly have Sjogrens Syndrome and Raynauds now. My toenail on my right foot is half white and half dark purple with a light yellow tint. It is now starting to break off. Has this happen to any of you with being diagnosed with raynauds? My other big toe on the left foot has a dark purple spot with light yellow tinting and a rainbowed effect light purple color over the white area of my toe bed. My thumb nails also have this rainbow effect of the light purple over the white part (not sure what the white moon cresent shape is called). Does anyone in this forum have this as well.
Thank you

Re: Dark purple colored toenails

It does not sound like Raynaud's as the dusky , or blue/purple phase affects the toe itself and is caused by lack of oxygen. It doesn't change the colour of the nail. If digit itself is this colour and has remained so this long, you should definitely call your Dr. If it is just the nail, have you worn any dark coloured polish of late? That might be causing the purply colour of the nail itself, and yellowing can be caused by chemicals and fungus infections and such. You can certainly consult your Dr about fungal infections.

Hi, yes it is just the nail that is this color. I had on black toe nail polish and thought that could of been the reason, but I'm very hestitant on that notion cause I have worn that clor before and nothing ever came about from it. My toe nail on my rt foot has came off but only the half that was purple. So, I'm not sure what is the cause of this.

Hi curious, I have wondered about you. On last thread you said that you were seeing ortho for your back, did you go yet? I would get an appt to see an internal medicine dr first without delay! If polish, nail would not have fallen off! Please, your derma & primary with their " need dr house" comments, & not even 1 blood test! ER, making you choose what you are there for? Your primary is good for referral only right now ,imho. I would see an internist that treats & tests ALL body systems. I would get scraping culture on nail, EMG to check for nerve damage, blood work to check for infection, chemistry for dizziness, swelling etc. Worry later about back, first you want to see why you are SO sick! Ortho, then spine specialist neurosurgeon. Please keep us posted. Imo, you needed the right testing yesterday. Thank you, curious! Hope you get answers soon.

P.s. all those diagnoses that you listed were just opinions, with no testing with abnormal results right? So sorry. Something wrong- someone can fix! Bless you!

I am seeing an infectious disease PCP. I think what the problem is that all my sympotoms seem to be a part of many diseases out there, which is causing the confusion along with my blood work up coming back normal. Nothing has came back abnormal besides having a UTI and a high count of proten in my urine. Thats whats stumping all the Doctors. Normally when you have the physical symptoms showing your blood work would show something? The opinions that I have received so far are Fibromyalgia, Raynauds Syndrome, Sjogrens Syndrome, Arthritis, Connective Tissue Disorder. At one point they thought I had MS. Made me do a MRI of my brain. Everything fine upstairs. I will talk more to my PCP on the 14th and see what is what then. I'm just going with the flow of things now and waiting for something else to malfunction. LOL! It's really not funny but that is all I have left is my sense of humor. Thank you for caring I truely apreciate being able to vent an have someone listen.

Re: Dark purple colored toenails

Hey curious, i did some checking around for you today. I have never seen the high protein in your urine until today. I saw purple nails can be sign of kidney disease. I think the infectious disease is stumped because you dont have a germ. Blood work depends on what particular test she ordered on your blood. Diseases or malfunctions are of course, not all caused by infection, like infectious disease. So, please, see an internal medicine dr before the 14th. Or ask her the name of all tests that you have had, the results & write them down or ASK for copies of everything that you have had done & a referral to a internist. Also, remember " spine specialist" is an ortho that only does backs or a neurosurgeon that limits his practice to backs. I think this is your best shot @ finding the answers to all your symptoms. I hope so for you. Thank you, gmak

Hi there!
I know its been a while and apologize for that. My issue with the nails seems to be that one time deal. I think the black toe nail polish was the issue for that? Never was able to find out the reason for that happening as my health insurance denied my referral to see a foot specialist since toenail issues in their eyes is not a medical necessity.
I'm still having other medical concerns and the latest one is an issue with my neck that is 100% bothering me. I have redness, swelling and pain that travels down both sides of my neck in the front. They tested my thyroid and that came back normal along with an ultrasound. I have had a neck CT scan with contrast of the lumps along my collarbones and that only showed fatty tissue build up. When the redness flares up on my neck I start to feel completely off. I know this can't be normal. I don't know what else to do?
