Wierd symptoms, is it Raynauds?

Hi all,
I have been having some wierd symptoms the past month. I always have cold hands and feet in winter but this winter is really bad. About a month ago, I noticed my fingertip pads were wrinkly like they had been in the bath. They also began showing an indent when holding something, like a fork, that goes away after 30 seconds (pinning edema I think but my fingers are not swollen?) They hurt and are very sensitive. When they do warm up they get red and feel swollen but dont look swollen. They are sensitive when warm too but not as painful. I went to my GP and she told me to keep them as warm as possible and not take things out of the freezer. Real helpful?

Anyone else have this? Its scaring me thinking about what is wrong with me?

I have had some other symptoms the past three months and been tested for just about everything. I have an endoscopy in two days to take a biopsy for celiac disease (which I think I have) but this wouldnt be a symptom of celiac that I know of.

Thanks for any help!
Jess

I have these same problems, and I hate being cold, I am planning to move to Florida for the warmer weather.

Re: Wierd symptoms, is it Raynauds?

It does sounds like Raynauds which could relate to celiac disease, since celiac is autoimmune and Raynauds occurs with several autoimmune disorders. I put on gloves when I have to take things out of freezer! Also, smoking greatly exaccerbates the vascular spasm of Raynaud's, as does extreme cold and heat. I also wash veges in lukewarm water and try to wear gloves whenever it is cold. It does help. Good luck with your app't.

I would suggest you have Bartonella.

Re: Wierd symptoms, is it Raynauds?

I have similar symptoms, but it is with my feet. I first noticed it last fall. We spend at lot of time at the ballpark and I noticed that even though no one else seemed to be freezing that I was. So much so that my feet burned and felt like pins/needles and then when we would get in the car and I took my socks and shoes off my feet would be white white and then would take either being under the heater vent or soaked in hot water for thirty minutes to take the pins/needles feeling away. When they are warming up my feet go from being white white to being bright red before going back to a normal color. If it is Raynaud's I know that I have two things going on that I've read "trigger" the attack - I'm on a beta blocker for an irregular heart beat and I'm hypothyroid.
What kind of doctor should I try to see - a rheumatologist, a vascular dr, an endo ??? What kind of tests should I ask to be run?

Re: Wierd symptoms, is it Raynauds?

This sounds like Raynauds too. It can occur alone or in conjunction with autoimmune disorders. If the Raynaud's is the only problem (no other symptoms), it can be treated by your PCP or cardiologist if you have one. Amlodipine works well to dilate the arterioles that go into spasm. It lowers BP too, so must use low dose to start and keep an eye on BP. If Raynaud's is accompanied by other symptoms such as joint pains, extreme fatigue, hair loss, mouth ulcers, a rheumatologist should be consulted to rule out autoimmune disease such as lupus.

Re: Wierd symptoms, is it Raynauds?

Hi everyone! Sounds like there are many of us with this problem! I didn't end up having celiac but am gluten free. I fill have this issue but it seems to be getting better slowly, maybe due to a wheat/ gluten sensitivity. It sounds like many if you have Raymauds. Good luck everyone!
Jess

Re: Wierd symptoms, is it Raynauds?

I would suggest if any of you plan to seek medical attention for this, take a picture when the color changes are present to show your Dr. Invariably, when you are there, your feet/hands will look perfectly normal, so you need to give them visual documentation.
