Raynauds, knuckles only

Hey everyone, i've been having various health problems over the past 8 months. However, one symptoms that I have been having is purple knuckles. I was curious to know if anyone has raynauds only in their knuckles? It heavily affects the top knuckles closest to the wrist, especially the one on my pinky. However, all the knuckles have been affected at some point. The main reason I don't believe its raynauds is because it doesn't affect the top of the fingers at all and I don't have any other color change except purple. It doesn't happen every time I am cold and they don't seem to hurt or tingle when they change colors. Any light on what this could possibly be? All help is appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Re: Raynauds knuckles only

It is possible that you have Gottron's sign, rash from your description. You could look at some images online and see if it looks like what you are experiencing. It is associated with polymyositis or dermatomyositis, an inflammatory autoimmune disorder. Sometimes the skin symptoms precede any other symptoms related to the muscles by months or even years. If you have a purplish discoloration around your eyelids, It is associated, as well as muscle aches pains or weakness. If you want to see a Dr. to check this out, I suggest you go equipped with pictures of your purple knuckles, purplish eyelids if that it present, since these signs come and go. Also a good knowledge of your family medical history and a list of any abnormal symptoms you feel. A rheumatologist is the specialist to see but your PCP could do some preliminary blood tests like CK, sed rate, CRP, ANA and anti-JO antibodies.

Ladybug, I would say that were possible... However, based on what I have read Gottron's doesn't come and go when cold? This ONLY happens when I am cold, but not every time im cold does it happen.

Re: Raynauds, knuckles only

I guess my thought would be to take pictures of it and show it to your Dr., in case it isn't there when you see him/her. I guess this could be some variant of Raynaud's and that symptom should be evaluated in light of the other health problems you have been having for 8 months to see if it forms any pattern. Let us know what you find out about it.
