Unhappy Big Paul struck out

Well my app did not go that well. I told them I was in pain, and the whole story, they want me to have one more blocker. I told them the last three have not worked, but they insisted on me having one more.

The blocker will be next week, they did not even help me with the pain Im having now. Im so discuraged, I dont think I can take the pain anymore.

See ya, Big Paul

Hi Paul~

Sorry to hear your appointment didn't go as well as you had hoped. Did you like your pain doctor though?

I don't think it's necessarly a bad idea to have another block. Some doctors simply don't hit the right spots so maybe this guy will have better luck. Were your first blocks done under fluroscopy? WIll this block be done under it? I think this is a good idea because it really ensures the medication is going into the correct spot.

I think when people switch doctors they are hesitant to do a bunch of med changes, especially with narcotics. I spent several months in pain management with a daily pain level of 8-9 without being offered anything stronger than Neurontin. My doctor tried medication from several different drug classes before he even considered short-acting narcotics. Another reason he may have not given you anything for the pain today is he doesn't want anything to influence your perception of pain relief you may get from the block. I'm sure your doctor will come up with a med plan depending on what your results are with this block. LIke I said in a previous post, patience is the key! Try not to get discouraged!

Re: Big Paul struck out

ya like gina said don't get discouraged. i didn't really think my blocks really worked. but now that i look back on it, i see that they have worked, i was just so negative on the whole thing that i had it set in my mind that they weren't going to work. when in reality they have actually had long term effects. they haven't gotten rid of most, well hardly all of my rsd problems, but they helped me a lot with my constant pain now that i look back on how i was then and how i am now. yet don't forget, you need to speak up as well if you feel you aren't being treated right, yet give this new pm a chance, he is just starting out with you. have faith!

Hi Paul,

I'm also sorry your appointment didn't go as well as you would have liked. Gina brought up a really good point. Did you like the doc? In my book, that's a really important thing to consider. If you don't like him, then you most likely won't have faith in him, you know? As Gina said, the blocks that you've had in the past may not have gotten to the right spot. You never know. If I were you, I'd at least give it one more try. Good luck with your decision.

Sharon
