Question I really need some help.

I have been stuck in Austin,TX for quite some time now. I had no health insurance, so I applied to and was accepted by the Travis county Medical Assistance Program (MAP). I was recently diagnosed with RSD by a doctor at the emergency room, and no doctor I have seen since has disagreed with that diagnosis. I went to a MAP approved doctor's office where they examined me and prescribed me Gabapentin (the ER doctor had also prescribed me Vicodin and Ibuprofen) but none of these medications have done very much good. I asked the doctor what else could be done, but she only said "the Travis County MAP program does not include pain management specialists, so if that is what you need treatment for you will have to go pay for it all yourself." The RSD pain is effecting my left hand and arm, so it has left me unable to work and I have no income. If I cannot find an affordable pain management specialist that can help me with this I will never be able to work again. If anyone knows of a doctor in Austin,TX that will work with me on this issue of inability to pay much please let me know. I really need help!

Re: I really need some help.

Hi Dancer,

First, I'm so sorry to hear about your problems with health insurance. I just recently got back on regular health insurance after going years without it.So i really understand the frustration of waiting on treatment just because of health insurance. I am 23 diagnosed with RSD for about 11 years now and I'm also in Austin,Texas and I currently go to a pain management specialist named Dr. Mark White. I've been with him since the beginning and he's taken really good care of me. I would definitely give him a call because his office is so helpful in general. They don't charge a crazy amount to go in and meet with him.I could afford to meet with him while I had no insurance and I'm just a student haha But even if it still is too much, if you call them and explain your situation I think they could at least point you in the right direction.

If you ever need to talk or anything let me know!
I know it can be very frustrating, but I also look forward to the future and the hope that one day it will all suffering will be gone.I have found really meditation on one things helps me cope: "He will wipe out every tear from there eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." Rev. 21:3,4

If you ever need anything I am here!

Re: I really need some help.

Thank you so much Lex! I will try to call him today. Maybe he can give me a payment plan or something. I hope so, because I will continue to have zero income until this condition is controlled well enough for me to be able to work again. Many thanks again!

Re: I really need some help.

hi.. im sorry to hear of your problems.. we all have them but to not be able to get treatmmnt need bcz of the ins..or in ability to pay.. i hvonly been dx'd with in the past to years but hv still seen mny problms..research research research and make many friends in ths board, for when your wings fail you..you will have many friens to help you back up.... first i hope you can find the medical care you need and it is affordabl second until you do what i have learned and it is very hard but dont let this get you down high hopes and spirits along with a great deal of faith and determination will get u through this (like i said ...very hard to do) third i know it hurts but exercise it so you dont lose muscle and mobility .see if there is a wrap you can apply to keep swelling down. it may hurt to apply but when its on i find it helps especially with swelling. i have seen on research and many drs have told me as well that physical therapy helps keep it under control..meanwhile i would appeal over and over with the ins with copies of drs notes showing you have rsd and print whatever you find on rsd and nec. treatments and submitt with you appeals and send hardship lttr explaining you financial issue. if all else fails maybe you have a state dept that may oversee all ins in your area like here in ny . and appeal to them if its a good appeal they may overturn your ins decision... all a long shot but stiil possible..
Please while going through ths journey of pain suffering keep you chin up and hopes high..but keep it real so disappointment is minimal. my heart goes out to you and all who suffer. god speed..
