what if a lumbar block doesn't work

I have read that if you have rsd a lumbar block should work. I only had one back in January. It did not work for me according to the pain managment doctor. I don't remember much of that day, accept get ready to laugh... my husband took me out for breakfast at Blueberry Hill after the shot. I am so loopy still from being knocked out. We order eggs and bacon. He says he looked across the table and I am licking the jelly off of a whole piece of toast. not just little licks, but running my tongue all over the slice of toast and if that wasn't embarrassing enough. I went to take a bite of bacon and one of my top front teeth fell out of my mouth. hahahah I have upper dentures and I guess before being knocked out I should have takend them out. I either knocked them against each other or ground them when I was out like a light to make a tooth fall out of the denture. Imagine that visual.... All I could do was laugh because otherwise I would cry.
Then after turning my upper plate into the dentise to fix, my husband had to help me up the stairs to go to bed. I was still loopy. my bed was too tall so he took some spare wood flooring panels he had and made me a staircase to get into bed. I still couldnt because my hips hurt to bad. So he lifted my legs into the bed for me. I got me a good one....
My point to this is a lumbar block always supposed to work? Because my first one did not and my pain management doctor said there was no use doing another one. Just curious if I should have pushed for another one.... Thanks

Re: what if a lumbar block doesn't work

Blocks the same as all other pain treatments only work on about 50% of suffers. It might be worth trying a second one if it's within a week. I had them once a week for 5 weeks no effect at all. Later found out that themoron who had been treatig me and claimed to be an RSD specialist was using blocks which Medical papers dated 17 yrs earlier had proved ineffective against RSD.

Re: what if a lumbar block doesn't work

My doc told me even before my first block that if it didnt work we would do a second, 2 reasons the first dont always work, sometimes it takes 2 or 3. and the second reason that he may have gotten the wrong spot. My first one did work for me but they only lasted me 2 or 3 days I would go for more blocks.

Re: what if a lumbar block doesn't work

I've had maybe a dozen blocks so far. 2 of them didn't work at all. They were just random in the line of the dozen. The last one was one of them. I'm guessing that the medicine didn't quite get where it should have. The others worked though. The first lasted only a day or so. The second maybe 3. Eventually they got where they lasted about a week. But like I said, in the middle there somewhere I had one that did nothing, didn't even feel the warming feeling. Same thing happend a week ago. I was so looking forward to the block and nothing.... We are still going to try it again this coming week.

Give it another go if your dr. will do it. I wouldn't judge it all on just one.
