CRPS and Flying

Does anyone notice an increase in swelling and pain when they fly? Just thought I would ask. Just returned from a trip and my swelling definitely increased, and my pain level increased as well.

Re: CRPS and Flying

Hi maggietaz,I was wondering did the pain and swelling start while you were actually on the plane? I have wondered about flying, my mom lives in ohio and I would love to visit, I was worried about flying, but am also worried about taking a train or bus or driving because of the RSD in my lower back and buttocks I could never sit for the long. I am in Fl the flight is only about an hour and a half to columbus.

Re: CRPS and Flying

as the plane rose so did the pain. Presumably due to the pressurisation

Re: CRPS and Flying

Kelly,
My RSD is pretty much under control, the swelling really didn't increase until till towards the end of the flight. The first flight was 5.5 hours. And the second flight was 4 hours.
So, I think it probably is a pretty individualized situation.

Re: CRPS and Flying

See I thought about amtrack, but with the RSD in my back and rear end the long sitting really worried me. I really want to visit my family but also want to get out of here for a change of scenery I know my RSD goes where ever I go but just want to take a break, from the bills, the friends who all treat me differently now, I just want to go where not everyone knows I have RSD to kind of oh I dont know what I am trying to say, My mom of course knows, but just would like a break from what I dont know. this has turned into a ramble could be the sleeping pills, or the muscle relaxers I better sign off before I sound completely nutty. good night all

Re: CRPS and Flying

even car journeys cause me more pain, every bump in the road everytime the wife has to break or accelerate. Since this started 2 yrs ago have made aprrox 150 Hospital visits. Apart from that have left my road less than 20 times and never for more than 1 1/2hrs.

I was told that amtrak is very comfortable and they have sleeper cars and dining cars etc so its like a moving hotel of a sorts..and i know what you mean. trying to get away from it for a small bit.. I no longer answer the question how are you tdy.. except to say alive then i change the subjecy immediatly.. I hope this info helps you ..I dnt like to travel at all so this was going to be huge foir me to begin with..but I believe this would be my best bet.. I think it could be for you as well...
