Re: need advice on possible RSD diagnosis
I would agree on the pain specialist. I went from podiatrist to podiatrist until one suspected RSD. I had burning and pain but not swelling or color change. I eventually got the color change and the pain and burning spread from the right foot to the left and then started up my legs. By the time I got the blocks (they ruled out auto-immune and nutritional issues but did suspect back issues) the burning was just below my knees, I had cold sensitivity and general sensitivity (coldn't wear shoes or socks). I was a mess, I wasn't sleeping and was depressed. The less I did, the worse I got! Anyway, I have been lucky that since the blocks the burning is much better and only happens about 3-4 times a week rather than everyday..a LOT. I also can wear shoes and socks (which is good since I still have issues with cold). My pain is still bad though the lyrica and desipramine (anti-depressant) help some.
Anyway, the symptoms can be all over the place. I have learned that it is up to you to take charge of your healthcare. Be pro-active. If something doesn't feel right, follow that feeling! Also, just because you have started with one doctor, you don't have to stay with them. Don't be afraid of a second, third, fourth, etc opinion. Good luck! Pain management dr's are usually more familiar with RSD since they tend to see it more. I would push to see one.
