Post Is it really rsd?

I have a now 17 yrd old daughter who was diagnosed with RSD in her left hand/limb. a little over a year ago. She has never had any injuries or anything to that sort which is what usually brings this on. Symptons cinsist of burning and stabbing pain. tender to tough. Sometimes her hand turns purple. Difficult to open her hand and muscle loss. All of her tests come back normal. We have tried all of the suggested treatments for the pain and have yet to relieve any f the pain. We have tried, meds, pain blocks, trigger point injections, accupuncture, biofeedback, Chiropractor. Nothing. I have tried several doctors to see if they may find something different but all have referred us to "Pain Specialists" who have yet been able to help..Physical therapy at this point s the only thing keeping her going. Is anyone else out there aware of what else this may be?

Re: Is it really rsd?

Hi...I am so sorry to hear this, especially such a young person. Sounds like you have had some attention for it though no success. Did you have MRI of CT or nerve tests- -NCV/EMG? Maybe they will tell you something.
I have found lots of very useful info on Dr. Schwartz CRPS page, he is a physiatrist in South Carolina...with many different versions of CRPS...lots that seem to be related to and with further investigation into his theories, maybe some answers. Hope you can find some help and answers here. I am a new dx with CRPS also and as well looking for answers and awaiting nerve blocks. I have recently been told to see a Physiatrist a dr who treats the whole person and gets to the root of problem that is what prompted me to find Dr. Schwartz.....Good Luck and hope this is not repetitive, but helpful.

Re: Is it really rsd?

Physical Therapy is OK providing it.s not aggressive. She should be given pain relief meds before any session. She also needs to do her own gentle therapy at home constantantly to aid progression. I had daily sessions and told to do 3 lots of 10 exercises at home but found it excruciating and that each time my hand was locked solid again after 15 mins. Eventually I started to gently flex my fingers constantly just as far as I could until the pain started to rise. It took 3 months before and could form a fist and once you start you have to do this forever but it's the only thing that has helped reduce my pain levels.
