Unhappy lost

Hello Everyone, my name is Dan i'm new on here. I was resently told I have rsd. I had a nerve block yesterday and it did'nt take the pain away . I have it in my right foot. I just dont know what to do. It all started back in July when I was getting out of my truck i twisted my ankle pretty bad. The doctor work sent me to did'nt any test and sent me back to work and work sent me home he did this twice. Than he sent me for PT after that I still couldnt walk on my foot and it was still swollen and purple, he finally did an MRI on August 28th and found outI had a broken heel and another break. Workers Comp. finally sent me to another doc who had to do surgery had to put pins and a plate. After they took my cast off something didnt feel rite my foot felt numb but hurt at the same time. Now I or no one can touch it it feels like someone is scratching my foot and lower leg with brillo. It hurts 24/7 the meds they have ne on do nothing. Now it feels like it starting to move up my leg more, but I feel like my PT or anyone else belives me. I dont know what to do.

Re: lost

I too had a broken heel. My foot was purple and swollen as well. I can't believe that your work doctor of PT did not notice that there was something severely wrong with you! A broken heel is very painful and involves a lot of nerves in the heel. I know the feeling of being numb but hurting 24/7. I thought the pain would never end. I could not even put my foot in water. I could not bear any shoes touching my feet. The doctor told me it was all in my head which insulted me. PT told me I was being a baby. People just don't understand till they go through it themselves. This hurting of my heel took months to go away. I am 10 months now and still have some shooting pains but most of the numbness is gone and that scratching sensation. Just when you think there is no hope it goes away. Feel your pain...

Re: lost

Hi Dan...sorry to hear of yet another CRPS person with w/c difficulties....u have to keep up with them, that's for sure. They are in the business of trying to dismiss everything and of course do not want to hear CRPS just as much as You don't. Sounds like your case is moving much quicker than most though, hard to believe I know, but I have been suffering since Aug 2010 and still have yet to get a nerve block. From what I understand they have to do at least a series of 3 blocks to determine if it works. I have been to 8 dr and still can't get any treatments done as they w/c move so slow it is frustrating to say the least. Have you checked out going to a Physiatrist? That is where I am trying to get appt. and be treated as they treat the whole person and get to root of problem and do therapy and nerve blocks...Look into it. Hope this helps!
Good luck and keep writing on here as it's tuff to get someone that seems to understand CRPS..and we're glad to give help if we can or an ear to listen.

Hi Dan, I have RSD in both feet and mine is creeping up my legs too. Mine is from knee surgeries. My PT did nothing for me either. He had never even heard of RSD! My PCP had never heard of RSD!!!! I live in a small town in TN..maybe that is why?? Anyway, we all do understand how and what you feel. Sometimes even that helps in some strange way. Get on line and look for RSD drs and make lots of phone calls. Email drs too. The more info you have and put yourself out there for help, the more you will learn and have more avenues for help. Don't forget to breathe...take some deep breaths when it all gets to be too much. I just read in a RSD self help book that it helps to "name" your RSD limb??! It helps you to keep yourself and the "pain" separate. It sounded pretty kooky when I read it but I really hope that it helps me today. I will let you guys know how it turns out. It still sounds a little silly to me but when you are desperate...and I am, we will try anything. Go to the pain management section too, lots of good info and people there as well. Hang in there as best you can. Karen

Re: lost

hey dano. I dont know the circumstances of your injury and reason for going to the dr your work said to goto but i too was injured at work. My job tried to get me to see there dr, but I refused medical treatment from them. I stayed for the drug test (had to) but i went to a hospital then followed up with comp dr,s of my choice. I learned long ago that if your place of employment has a dr for work injuries then they have a direct connection with said dr or clinic and there for it is a conflict of interest to be treated by them. You should have the RIGHT to see drs of your choice as long as they take comp. the only drs you should have no choice about is the IME dr.(that is insurance medical examiner) you have no choice as it is the insurance(comp,S) right to make sure treatment is right and that you are receiving benefits through valid issues and injuries. and still they are working for the insurance company not you. make sure that the dr,s you use notate you chart in detail and clarity and see a hand full of drs. i see a neurologist, orthopaedic, vasc surgeon , psychaitrist, pain management, spine specialist, and PT and all agree on dx and treatment, .. I do have issues wich im currently facing but that is me. the insurance and state plus my job are well informed to my injury, so I am covered. Always best to make sure you receive the treatment you need and put yourself in a strong position to defend yourself. try not to feel lost come here for understanding. it helps.(not always) but alot. you can make real friends that understand you and are on YOUR side.. be well my friend and I hope you can find help in the information i left..

Hi Dan, I don't know very much about w/c, but I know that it can hard to find a good RSD Dr. I know you are having a really awful time of it, and just wanted you to know you are in my prayers. This place can be such a comfort when you are really hurting. The people here have been so wonderful to me and I hope you are getting at least some comfort here too. Two things that have helped my feet are lidocaine patches and soaking in epsoms salt. May not seem like much, but when you are in that "bad place", they can both be really helpfull. I have found that every little thing I can do is good for my spitit too. I hope you are feeling a little better today, and if not, know that the people on here really understand and want to help you. *gentle hugs* Karen

Re: lost

Hello Karen,I just wanna say thank you. If it wasnt for you and a couple of other people on hereI would still feel lost. It just makes me feel that im not alone anymore. This the most i've talked to anyone scince I was told I have RSD in my foot. I have an 8 year old son Ryan he has Asbergers and doesnt understand. He asks me everyday daddy can you take me to the park, playground or the bay I feel horrible that I cant . So all I was doing was hiding in my room totally cut off from the world. Now I have people that understand what im going through.

Re: lost

Dan you are so very, very, welcome. You cant know how much that meant to me. Really. Thank you, you made my night and week. I have been holed up in my room too, feeling sorry for myself and you have helped pull me out of it. We are all in this together and I thank God everyday for the wonderful people on the boards. I am so happy that you are feeling a little better?? Or maybe at least a little better in your heart. Karen. *hugs for your son*

Re: lost

Dano1971 I too am appallled that your workers comp doctor sent you back to work and let you suffer for a whole month before even Considering an mri or xray! But then again the doctors and Physical therapy work for YOUR EMPLOYER they are the worst doctors and i have had a similar incident but notthing compared to yours. they were trying to get me back to work as soon as possible and kept minimizing my injury that happened at work , so i went to a lawyer and he told me to go to an outside doctor . After you get bettter you should sue the crap out of your employers and the workmans comp they have in their employ !!! I pray you recover completely and that this will just be a bad memory soon !

Re: lost

NO, if you have medical insurance i would go get a second opinion from another doctor .what happened with me is i totally felt like the doctors and nurses were not listening to my pain , sometimes when i showed up to physical therapy i would be so sore and in pain afterwards that i stopped going and went to a personal injury lawyer , i believe that is what they are called and he sent me to one of his doctors and i did not have to pay out of pocket .This is when the lawyer told me the reason those doctors and nurses are so mean and lack any empathy is because their goal is minimize any costly procedures that my company may have to pay because my injury was caused at my work .hope this clears it up a little ? You have a right to go to another doctor you have to be your own advocate and get on the phone and also find out if they can give you a different medication that will help with your pain ,u should not have to be deprived of your family because you are in pain .take care !

Re: lost

I would suggest if you have a general practitioner or primary care dr i would see if they take comp, then get your referrals from there. One comp dr usually knows what other drs take comp. also if you do not have an attorney get one this isnt something you wing, you will need to go to court many times to overturn denials.. and make sure that you find an Atty (comp atty) that is well versed in RSD/CRPS. or if you find one you like that isnt well versed you educate them.. good luck
