Lightbulb Desensitization - how do YOU get it done?

I'd like to know from others here what they do for desensitization of affected areas.

1) Frequency and duration of desensitization exercises?
2) What objects/textures do you use and how?
3) Light or deep touch? Fast or slow? Smaller surface area contact or large?

Also, do you find that the limb is really somewhat "desensitized" afterwards? How long does this "desensitization" last?

Thanks for your response. I feel like after I do desensitization for 10 min (when tolerated), my pain may increase but the actual burning and odd sensations decrease. I feel better about touching it after I've done the exercises. Trying cotton balls tonight, but I think those sound worse than the beans and rice I've been "playing" in.
