MY daughter 8years old with RSD

Hello
My daughter start to felt a mild pain in her right ankle ,after a week , she cant walk , she have a terrible pain in whole leg , very sensitive to light touch , she feel shooting pain , abnormal movements , she cant tolerate hot water , the leg was cool ,but she feel hot inside. We visit a lot a doctor and in the most of case they didnt know what happenen with my daughter. We are desperate because she cant sleep for weeks , she cant go to school , she cant go to her karate , dance clases. After 4 MRI , 1 bone scan ,1 EMG+ NC, 2 XRays and a lot a blood test , She was diagnosticada with RSD. We are devasted because none of the doctors have seen other children with this condition. When we are most desperate , one anesthesioligist that use acupunture he recomend another anesthesiolist , for a possible simpathetic block. We have luck , because this doctor have work in Boston children hospital , and work we this patient. He recomended intensive phisical therapy and medicaments. She take neurontin , pamerol and trileptal. She responde very weel tothe treatment. We live in Puerto Rico .Today my daughter is walking and almost well, although we are nervous about the future ,because we dont know if this terrible nightmare was finish.
IF Somebody here have a similar experience ,we want know if was a total recover. Thanks
Happy Holidays!!

Hi and welcome,

Sorry your daughter has this, but happy to hear she's doing better. They say that children do better with RSD than adults in a lot of cases. Maybe she's one of the lucky ones. I've had RSD since I was 15. I'm now 33 so I have a lot of experience with it. I do know one woman who was diagnosed in her 30's and as far as I know (I haven't seen her in a while), she's RSD-free. There is always hope. I guess your daughter just has to be as careful as possible about injuries. I know that's a lot easier said than done, especially for such a little girl who probably wants to run around and play. Good luck. I hope she continues to improve and I hope the RSD NEVER comes back to your family.

Sharon

Re: MY daughter 8years old with RSD

Hi,
I've also heard that children respond better than adults. I hope this terrible nightmare is over for you. I would be careful with the karate and dance since they tend to have more accidents than regular activity. I'm glad your daughter is responding to the medications & hope she doesn't have to take them for long.
Hugs & prayers,
Linda

Re: MY daughter 8years old with RSD

I feel so for you and your child. Ask the MD at Boston's Children's what activities she should be in. I also would watch her. Kids bounce back so much faster than adults, but reinjury is an unknown with us. I am so happy that she is back to herself. What a joy it must be to have her back on the road. Keep up the PT and may God continue to bless her with great health. Please keep us updated. I love a great success story as much as anyone else on this board. Enjoy your holidays. I have visited Puerto Rico once and loved the island. I stayed in San Juan and visited the old city, rain forest and just had a great time. I have red hair and everyone no matter where we went stared at me. Maybe being a tourist does that also? I don't know. Loved the food, beverages and touring.
