| Thalidomide Treatment
I know everyone is talking about ketamine right now, but we asked the doctor last week and he said that he doesn't want to try that, but he does want to enroll my husband in a trial for thalidomide. That was also mentioned at the conference by someone from UCLA. They gave a lot of positive data from studies of rats. They have also had good results in people, but some side effects--peripheral neuropathy, constipation, and excessive sedation (my husband sure doesn't need that!). Evidently they are starting a double-blind trial to investigate the change in pain and increase in functionality. Unfortunately both ketamine and thalidomide make me nervous. (I just remember the pictures of the children born in the 60's, with no arms and legs.) Has anyone else heard of thalidomide treatment?
