dry mouth and RSD????? - Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Message Board

Need to know if they are related in any way. I thought it was my meds, but I have been taking them for months and I dont think that this all could have started on the same day and be a coeindence. (sp) I have read mnay RSD articles and none of them mention this but The salvary gland does have nerves so ?????
Any ideas???????

Hi Lori,

I suffer from a dry mouth too (mostly overnight) & have been advised by my Dr that it's a common side effect of the medication.

I take 2,700mg of Gabapentin (Neurontin) throughout the day & 100mg of Amitryptiline at night & my dry mouth coincided with me starting the Amitryptiline.

I haven't heard of RSD causing a dry mouth (but with this condition who could know for sure!), so tend to agree that it is caused by the medication.

I have this in a very bad way.i too thought is was my meds but have figured out by doing a little research and talking with my NS that this could very well be related to the actual sympathetic damage that started the RSD in the first place.I was on pain meds for two years before my last(and most devistating )suregy and had dry mouth during the day but not all that bad,but THIS is horrible.i wake up in the middle of the night and i have absolutely no moisture in my mouth anywhere,i mean dry as a bone,nothing.This kind of dryness is not related to meds alone.just one more 'gift" of nerve damage.yippie.i found this stuff (for dry mouth)at walgreens in the toothpaste section that I use in my mouth that comes in a tube.it isn't really great but it does help a little anyway.The spray stuff does not work at all,so don't waste your money on that.yep, this all does just suck.Marcia

Yes, I suffer from extremely dry mouth and eyes. I don't think it has a darn thing to do with the Meds. I had this dryness from day one. Lots of hard candy (sugar free of course) and gum are my trick and as far as the eyes, I use a lot of eye drops.

I have read some information that RSD causes dry eyes, so why not dry mouth?

Ok, Now this is the funny part.....
I was taking duragesic patches 25 and was given the generic sandoz 25. I was told by the pharmacist and several people that there is no difference, well they are WRONG!!!!!!!! MY PM doctor just told me that there is a difference and the difference being is how they administer the ingredients while producing it. MY pain has been off the wall the past 6 weeks and I couldnt figure out why and now it is probably due to the generic brand that stinks. It causes DRY MOUTH!!!!! He didnt say I didnt have RSD because that was also a symptom and the hand and feet issue does not comes from change of meds. So I think I have RSD AND the change of meds mabey made it errupt and come out. PM doc seems to think so.
How does that sound?????

oh... I did go to the pharamacy and buy drops for my tongue. It is a liquid and works for about 5-6 hours after 3-4 squirts on the tongue. It does work pretty well but the initial taste isn't that great. cost was $7.95
