Does the pain always get worse? If treated early enough with physio will the prognosis be more optimistic? Has anyone had any luck with mirror therapy or DMSO? Does anyone live in Canada? Just wondering about what specialist to see here.

Reason: Need more information
My pain management dr. told me that if they can start doing sympathetic nerve blocks early, like first 3 mos, then there is a very good chance the pain will be reduced. He said it will never go away, but it can get better, some people say it goes away, but it is always there. He said at the beginning, when we started with the blocks that he hoped my pain would be reduced 80%.
I was doing great with them and making progress until my orthopedic surgeon hit a nerve in my rsd foot giving an injection....which I found out I should not have let him give me, but I was new to the whole RSD thing and didn't know. And then I had surgery in March for a bone infection that was kind of an emergency deal and that set me back even more.
So the answer to your question is no, I don't think it always has to get worse. But if it isn't treated properly, I think the answer then is yes.

My pain has been greatly reduced by the sympathetic nerve blocks, massage and PT. Mine was caught within the first few months. I still have some pain, but it is manageable. I don't use much pain medication ( my choice). You have to find a good PM doc and you have to stay with it to find what will work for you.

Oh, and make sure they don't use ice at physical therapy either. That was the one thing my PT didn't know about RSD/CRPS and he iced me down after PT (was going there for rehab after ankle surgery) and eventually I told him to stop because if felt like I was being sliced apart by razor blades. Then I read up on ice and rsd after I was dx'd and figured out why.
