Hi everyone! I am a RSD sufferer too. I won't go into the gory details but I have lived in severe intractable pain for sometime. I am in Pain
Management program at a local hospital. I am of course taking oral meds. Neurontin, Oxycotin, Oxycodone, trazadone, and others. I recently found a websight that has complimentary therapies in the form of Guided Imagery Tapes and CD's. A friend told me about this sight because she had used a CD about surgery before having a mastectomy. She said it really helped her. So I looked into it. I found out that this particular group has been working with Dr's and Hospitals on verifying that these Guided Imagery Tapes are effective. So far there is a very high success rate with them. I got one called "Ease Pain" and one called "Self- Confidence". I have been using both and have found them to be very helpful. They are not a cure for any problem but rather an additional strategy to use to help ease the pain. Think of our pain relief as an unbuilt building... To build relief ( the building) it takes many components...Our own willingness to keep fighting is the corner stone of this building. Each therapy we use or try is another brick in the building. For example medication, family and friends support, support of knowledgable psychological therapeutic professionals, adjunct therapies (massage, acupuncture, physical therapy, occupational therapy). Think of Guided Imagery as one more brick in the building. I have found great help with this. It teaches a different way to "fight" the pain by not fighting it but rather letting it move thru you and out. I thought I was hearing things the first time I heard it. It gave me permission to stop fighting it for a few minutes and just let it flow out. Talk about rest form a huge task!. The Women who has created these fine works is Bellaruth Napastack (SP?). From what my therapist tells me she is the best. I have had a lot of help from these tapes and I use it as one more weapon in my arsenal, fighting RSD.
