Lightbulb Distraction

When I wasn't able to leave my house because of the pain, I needed a distraction. So I learned how to screenwrite. I've always loved writing and reading and screenwriting incorporates both those together. I started adapting my favorite book into a screenplay. First because I didn't know how to screenwrite, I just read through the book again and wrote key points down about charaters, places, things about the planet, etc. It helped so much with the pain. Then after I got out of the hospital from the week-long block period, I got a book on how to screenwrite. I read it and learned and then started. Whenever I would sit down at the computer and type, the pain would just go away. I'm serious, it would be gone. So whenever I would be in a lot of pain first i would try all the breathing techniques they say to do and then I would lay down in a dark, quiet room. But none of that worked for me. So i would get up, walk to the computer and start writing. Instantly the pain was gone and I was absorbed in the book and the technique of adapting it. That's the reason why I wanted to start this subject. Do any of you have something special you do that takes all the pain away?

I also have things that help me. I love to paint little bird houses, light houses, ceramic animals, pots, etc. Its is harder now and does not look very good since I am doing it all left handed but still it helps me. I can't sell them, I'm sure those I give away are not put out but I still try and it helps.

You are the first who said they had the hot flashes with neurontin. I have always thought mine were caused bye that. I posted about 2 mts ago asking if anyone had a reaction like that and no one at that time did.

I am going to call my pharmacist have them print out all the effects on both meds to take to my doc tomorrow.

Thanks, lynn

Cattys how lucky to live in the country. I was born/raised in the country, even when I got married my ex and I bought land on this mtn in the Bay Area so we would not have to live in the city. I miss being able to have all the animals I wanted, the walks and just everything about the country. I am lucky at least here, I live in a larger city but my street is old and is a dead end street so no traffic plus the lots are huge for each building. Most are duplexes, and very quiet.

Thank you everyone for writing!
It is so important, I've found, to get your mind off the pain. So many people kept teeling me that, but i couldn't think of anything. I mean RSD had taken everything from me. It had taken my life, my independence, my legs, and my closest friends. What was left for me. Books. My dreamworld that has been a reality for me and soon will be a reality for others. It has kept me sane through all the tears and fears. They have been the only thing keeping me going while tears were streaming down my face and I couldn't write because I couldn't see. I owe too much to the authors of those worlds then to just give to the pain and give in. Life is hard and we must all fight the battles that are thrown in our direction, no matter how insurmountable they seem.
