Topomax or Neurontin - Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Message Board

Many months back I asked about becoming so hot when taking Neurontin, at that time no one else had that effect. Scriptor mentioned that when she took it she also had bad hot flashes. I went to my pharmachist, asked for the leaflet on Tomomax so to take to my doc tomorrow.

Who all takes Tomomax, any side effects and what. I have such bad reactions to meds that I may just be grahsping at straws again. The days it was so hot here, it was like turning the faucet on the sweat was running down my face. I am not a heavy person, very small really 124lbs. So its not that I weigh alot, healthy until this.

How much tomomax do you take also?

hello again.
For Topomax I take 8 pills a day at 25mg, so that's 200mg a day. I take it throughout the day, four times. My doc said that's as much as I can take. But my body has adapted to the medication and the pain is full force. Not as bad as when I was house bound and couldn't walk, but it's getting there. My legs hurt so much right now!!
They're burning so much!

I have been taking topamax for about a year for migraines. I take 50 mg in the a.m. and 50 mg. in the p.m.
The neurololgist increases it each time I go to her every 6 months. I have no side effects except I lost weight. I needed to tho. You could just eat higher calories. Have some ice cream sundies. It can make you a little tired. I need to have my dosage increased because with the rsd the migraines came back. If I were you I would give it a try. I never had sweats from them. Good Luck. Hi Lynn! Now that you mention it, I don't think I have as many hot flashes on the Topomax as I did on the Neurontin. Sorry, I responded too late for your app't. The only side effect that I've noticed is a slight tingling in my fingertips. I think it has helped reduced my pain a bit. I take 50 mgs in the a.m and 50 mgs in the p.m.. Hope you make out o'k.

I just started Topamax two days ago. Although I was prescribed it by my psychiatrist as a mood stabilizer. Apparently this is used in the treatment of RSD as well? I know it is commonly used to treat certain forms of epilepsy, but how does this med help in treating RSD? I obviously was happily surprised to see in this post that it my help my RSD as well!

BTW, I got hot flashes and sweats within 20 minutes of taking my first dose. I am on 25 mgs, gradually builing up to 75mgs over the next three weeks.
