Post The Cure

Stickgirl,

You asked me about the cure that my doctor spoke of.

Today, this cure is only available in Germany, and my doctor recently attended a conference on it. I dont remember what the percentage of patients that it actually works in, but it was in the high 90%'s...

I'm going to explain this all in laymans terms, so, please forgive me if your looking for the medical terminology...

What is suspected is that this disorder started at a nerve ending, and traveled up to the spinal cord, and thats where it spreads. It actually changes the DNA in the spinal cord, thus, thats why they can do nothing but medicate the pain, and hopefully slow the progression down. The goal is to change the DNA back to it's orginal state. The only way to accomplish this, is to shut down the nervous system, and then start it back up.

What they do is put you on a ventalator and in a medically induced coma, where you will remain for approximatly one week. Once in the coma, they will administer Ketamine <sp> also known on the streets as "Special K". This drug will turn the whole thing off. When they "turn it back on" they have found remarkably, that the patients have fully recovered, and the DNA has returned to its normal state.

The down side is that when you wake up, it takes a good week to stop feeling horrible, and I mean HORRIBLE, from what he told me. Its like you've been to hell and back. Not painful, but just sick. As you age, and get into your elderly years, you may have 'flashbacks' or halucinate occasionally as anyone would who had overdosed on ketamine.

He said in Germany, its a common and successful treatment for RSD, however, it's not offered in the United States yet, as Doctors are still stumped here on the whole idea of this disorder.

He also warned me that yes, some day my pain may be so bad, that this will be an option that I pray for. To me, it doesn't sound nearly as bad as all of my limbs being enveloped in this pain that is taking little nibbles of me so far, savoring every minute of one limb at a time. I didn't realize that as bad as it hurts already, it could get worse, and because it has already spread to all four limbs, it most likely will consume me one day.

Until then, I will fight back with every ounce of energy I have!

If you are still interested in finding out more about this protocal, let me know, and I'll ask my doctor to email you with the contact in Germany.

my wife (Colleen) is currently signed up for the trip to Germany, but there is a waiting list. as i understand it, each doctor can send 2 of their patients at a time, to one of the two hospitals in Germany who have experience at the ketamine coma/treatment. the ketamine also helps to flush/clean the body of opiate type pain meds, so it's good to take it for intense pain, and it will make your regular pain meds work much better, when you need them. i keep liquid ketamine in the house, and put it in capsules for my wife, because the taste of the liquid, is terrible

Hi,

Just to let you know Ketamine treatments are being done in the US as well as oral Ketamine.

There is some good info on the net by searching RSD, Ketamine.

Some have had the treatment and are pain free, while others the treatment didn't work, period.

I'm sure with more and more trials in the coming years, we will one day have a cure. But until that time, there still is lots of hope.

Hugs Destiny

Thank you for the info, I understand how it works now. There has been treatments with Ketamine here in the US also. Unforgenetly I have severe allergies to diff meds that I am not a candidate for katamine. Also not sure if I would want an induced coma, I was in a coma for 2 weeks when I was 18 due to a car accident. Still have problems from that, one that is medically induced sounds scarry to me. But for others, if it works I think it would be great.

Thanks again for the info, I hope it has helped others to understand also.

Laeci, thanks for the time and effort it took for you to write this. I had never heard of any of this information. My pain is not nearly as bad as some of my friends on this board and I am truly thankful for that. This cure seems so drastic. Hopefully in the coming years it will become less so. At least there is hope.
