Well I've figured out the following things that are bad for me. I'd like to hear from others as to what is bad for them also:
chocolate
sitting with my knees down
caffeine
driving in a car with legs down
sleeping too long
STRESS AND MORE STRESS
changing from heels to low shows like tennis shoes or something
ALso I'm gaining weight like crazy. Could this be the neurotin? At this rate, I'll weight 200 real soon and I'm only 5 feet tall. Somebody said I should ask the doctor to switch from neurotin to something else cause it causes cravings and weight gain.
When I was first diagnosed and put on Neurontin I gained about 35lbs. As if the disease isn't depressing enough!Weight gain seems to be a common side effect in RSD drugs, at least the ones I've taken. Couple that with the fact we become less active due to the pain - it's a "double whammy". I'm now borderline diabetic and trying to control that with diet.
Stress, smoking, drinking - anything/substance that effects your nervous system has the potential for aggrevating RSD. Stress, overuse of affected area and exposure to cold/touch are the top catalysts for me - Shelley
I also gained a lot of weight in a very short amount of time, but it was because of the Baclofen I was taking at the time. I also took Neurontin, but wasn't on it a long time because I couldn't take the side effects so I stopped it. Hope everyone is doing okay.
Dayton, my doc said that Topomax which is a similar med to Nerontin (sp?) has a side effect in some people of loss of appetite. I take the Topomax and don't eat much. I think for me it's the inactivity that has made me huge. I am unable to work (not RSD related) but I was walking 3 miles daily until last year. Of course when I was first diagnosed I felt sorry for myself and pigged out on sweets. Chocolate doesn't seem to bother me. Anyway, ask your doc about the Topomax.

The pharmacist said I might gain weight, the doc laughed and said some do but for me not to worry. I haven't gained a pound, have been on it for about a yr.
My doc says if he could sell my gene's, we could both be ricer then Donald Trump.
