Angry im 16...percussionst..took a fall and I land in the rsd message bored

Im 16, going into my grade 12 year in highschool, Im an active....well I try to be active drummer/percussionist...We were doing a benifit concert (March 2002) raise money for children with leukimia when I was in the aisles of the theatre doin my thing and some bafoon left his/her drum sticks in the asiles (which is stairs) I slipped fell forward and fell onto an edge of one stair mainly on the palm of my left hand (the thumb area).

I stupidly (director says my love was just to strong and I was stuborn) I left my hand for 2 days hiding it from almost everyone...and continued playing. I fell Friday finally sunday 6pm went to emerg and my hand was soo swollen that they could barely make out *** I did...They said I cracked..my scaphoid and that it's going to be hard for them to cast me. Oh you know "hand cast's" they go around fingers, around thumb and only just hand. Oh no this cast whent up to the tip of my thumb and the edge of my knuckles. 2 weeks latter I was in SO much pain mom had to take me to the doctors and they removed the cast *ahem* the dude cut it wrong wretched and pulled and squeezed till it came off I litterly passed out in pain...They said what is wrong with you, your fine no broken bones. Then 12 midnight back in emerge and the nice cast guy said omg...you were cast wrong...and your bone is "ok"...but your not.

Cat scan, bone scan, trying therapy, drugs up the wall, and a hell of end of grade 10 and all 11 I sit here waiting for a chronic pain specialist to call, more pain killers and a want to just PLAY percussion the way I used to again. I fight it so much...I would be in almost tears trying to get through a 20 min gig. I finally picked up my bass for the first time in 2 years..and it was sooo hard...

Some doctors say I don't have RSD...I experiance in my left hand..
Sweaty palm, seazing up in the left arm, severe rocket like burning pains all the way up to my neck...blotching in the thumb area, bruising once in a while redness, thiness in my wrist, minimal joint movement and chronic non stop annoying pain....

anyways thats my story...I know reading some of you guy's stuff...You've had it SO longa and like 10x worse..how the heck do you do it..?

Hi Percussionist. Welcome to the forum. I hate to read of this monster happening to people so young. It's so sad. I have RSD in my foot. Last year it was in my left foot and this year it is in my right foot. I just try to take it one day at a time. I know it sounds so trite to say that, but it is the only way. I have had lumbar blocks which have helped and am on pain meds. I have a supportive husband and that helps a lot. It is hard to have had to give up so many things that RSD has robbed me of doing but I keep reminding myself that it can't rob me of my spirit or my soul. I believe that you will get better. There is no cure for RSD but it is possible to feel better and have pain tolerable days. I pray this happens for you. I think you will find this board helpful. I've learned alot here. We are here for each other when we are happy, sad, or just having a bad day. You take care of yourself.

Hi percussionst,

Welcome to our little RSD family, I also hate to hear of someone so young like you getting this monster.

I also got rsd from a fall on my left hand my pain also goes up into my neck. The pain the color changes and the shrinking of your hand are all RSd traits. My fingers on my left hand are much smaller then my good hand. You start to loose mucsle in the bad limb from lack of use.

Have you ever recieved any sympathetic gangloin blocks?

This disorder will do strange things to the body. nothing surprises me anymore.

The sweating in your hand is from the sympathetic nervous system misfiring. This nervous system controls our vital signs such as. body temp, blood pressure, heart rate, and to control our immune systems.

I hope you stay around on this forum and feel free to jump right in and ask questions or if you just need someone to talk to ,we are always here.

cattys

Hi Percussionist and welcome. I've had RSD for 17 years-since I was 15. Just wanted to say "hi". Good luck.

Hi Percussionist ,

I'm sorry you have been saddled with this ugly disease that no one seems to know about!

My husband has RSD in his foot that was triggered by foot surgery in March for something else.

All I can really offer is to tell you to read everything you can on the Web about this monster, to become empowered about your own care, and then demand to be seen by a Pain Dr. who specializes or at least is very experienced in treating RSD! You need to be your own best advocate....sheesh, if we had only depended on what the Dr. told us about this disease, I don't know where we'd be now! Drs. don't have the time (nor often the knowledge) to sit and explain everything about this (or any other ailment), it's really up to US to become informed and aggressive about our own healthcare!

We have learned so incredibly much from this forum...and it's so wonderful to be able to talk to others who know what we're going through, and to read and compare treatments and medicines and advice!

Hope you have a low pain day,
~Ange
