Sprained ankel again!!! - Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Message Board

Well, I've done it again! I rolled my ankle again today because my leg keeps giving out on me. It is swollen and lots of pretty colors. I have a block tomorrow which I am very thankful for. My pain has been a 9 most of the day. I got it down to a 7-8 now so I thought I would come online to keep my mind off it. It's not really working. Oh well.
I am so mad that my leg gives out on me. It is only when the pain level is allready high. I've told all my docs about my leg giving out in the past and they insist I don't use a cane or crutch. I haven't told them about the sprain today. Want to wait to get my block. I can hardley get around. Oh well!!
Oh, on a lighter note, I have a funny story. The elavil makes me sleep walk. A while ago I slept walked into a wall. Last night I guess I got up to use the bathroom and I guess when I was done I was trying to get into bed. I sat down on the bed and went to lay down, problem was that I was on the end corner of the bed. When I tried to lay down I ended up with my feet on the bed my butt on the floor and my head aginst the wall!! My husband shot up out of bed. He thought someone drove into the house it was so loud. my elbows have rugburn and bruises and my tailbown hurts like mad. But overall it was pretty funny. Guess I'll be talking to the doctor to get that med changed.

I hope your ankle gets better soon for you. Hopefully the block will take care of it.

My legs will give out once in a while also.

Hi Zim,

When I was taking Elavil, I would get dizzy and fall all the time (not to mention the memory loss). I think it did more damage than good.

I was told that desipramine was a good alternative to Elavil as it had less side effects.

I hope your ankle is feeling better soon.

I am now taking 100 mg of elavil and for the first time i think i am sleeping most of the nite. Except when i hit my foot on the wall when i move or the muscle spasms hit it.. The only side effect i have gotten from it is blurry vision and urinary retention. Doc says to keep an eye on it andif it gets worse he will change me. He keeps upping the elavil bc he doesnt want to give me stronger pain meds bc of the fear of addiction. soo. i dont like to take medications either, so the less i have to take the better i am, and even though the pain meds he will give me (lortab) they dont touch the foot pain , but they make me sleep soo...????

OK sorry for rambling on and on..

update-
Had block today and the doc agreed to let me of the elvail but I have to slowly reduce it over a two week period. Also I got an appointment with my podiatrist for fri. morning to look at my big ugly ankel! Hopefully he'll say it's just another sprain.
