Problems remembering - Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Message Board

Has anyone else here have problems remembering anything or learning something new since getting RSD?

My husband and I were playing cards with our friends and I could not for the life of me comprehend how to play. I looked like a total idiot . mY husband felt so sorry for me. I wanted to crawl under the table. I tried to explain since I got RSD I have a hard time remembering and you can tell they were thinking what does your injury have to do with learning or remembering. People don't realize what all this disorder will do to your body. I GET SO FRUSTRATED!!!!!!!

I never use to be like this. I will go to do something and all of a sudden can't remember what I was going to do. This is starting to really freak me out. My mind will go totally blank at times.

Does anyone else get like this? Please tell me I am not the only one.

Hi Cattys!

I thought I'd heard that this is a big problem with one of the common medications???? Neurontin maybe??? I'm not sure, but I know I've seen this as being a well documented side effect of something around here!

Hi Cattys,

When the doctor put me on Elavil, I forgot almost everything. It was awful -- I felt so feeble-minded and to make matters worse, my whole family was making fun of me. The only reason I continued taking it was because it took away the electrical shooting pain.

When the doctor gave me a nerve block in my ankle, I stopped taking the Elavil and my memory along with my sanity went back to normal.

Maybe you could do some research on the medication you are taking and switch to something that has less side effects.

My memory loss came when I got on the high doses of neurontin. I'm at 2400 mgs per day. I always feel like I am in a fog. The elavil has added to this even though I only take it at night. I'm going to ask the doc to switch the elavil because it makes me sleep walk, gives me bad dreams, and talk in my sleep a lot more then usual. So anyways, yes I have been more forgetful too but I think it's the drugs.

Neurontin seems to have an effect on memory. I hear that a lot.
