Question Follow-up after SG Block

I had my first SG Block about 1 month ago for my hand and wrist. One month has passed and the only relief I got was the first 2 hours..my whole arm and wrist and hand became very very warm. It felt good for those 2 hours but after that the pain was still there everytime I moved it or lifted any object. I dont know if the block worked or not. I have read that the first 2 hours that is surpose to happen but now what??? I am having a follow-up PM dr's appoitment on the 16th and I dont know what to tell him. He will probably ask me if it worked...I guess i will have to say it worked for about 2 hours...but did it really??? I am so confused will this whole Block thing...do they really work or not. I dont know where to go from here..do I tell him it worked or it didnt? If 2 hours is working then do I tell him it worked. But I still have pain, some day less than others..when I think I am having a good day it usually doesnt last long. OH well...I hope someone can help me..what do I tell my pm doctor..I would appreciate any comments or support. Thanks for listening. I just has such high hopes for this block. I am also getting sick and tired of taking meds (Neutronin & Amptripline)that put me in a fog and make me gain weight. Sorry to be such a complainer.

I've had 12 SG blocks. Trust me, yours worked! Blocks are cummulative - the more you get the longer they last. The first block may last hours, the next a day or so, etc. When you go back to your doctor he/she will probably set you up with a series of blocks. Mine were done in a series...once a week for 5-6 weeks. You may not even get immediate relief. A few months down the road you may need another series. My blocks knocked out about 50% of the pain. My docter said that is about average. I'll take what I can get! Hang in there, it's a long process. Good luck - Shelley

Hey SHelley, do you think this difficulty swallowing could be from the block? Maybe something went wrong or what? My ears pop when I swallow and I'm consistently trying to clear my throat cause it feels like it's closing up on me. HELP!!!!

I would tell the dr. Just what you told us that the block lasted for 2 hours. Did you get the droopy eye?

I get the same thing with my sinuses draining and my throat with swallowing after a block this somtimes lasts with me for days.

Believe me I have my pm dr. hit a gland with the needle already and my whole body system got unregulated for 3 months afterwards. I was really sick and did not know why.

TaKe care

Thanks guys for the encouragment. I just want the pain to stop so I can go back to work. I havent worked since Jan 2003 and I am going crazy at home. I use to be a infant day care teacher(did that for 20 years)but my hand can't lift them anymore. That is how I hurt my hand in the first place(trying to catch a little toddler while holding a infant) I have trouble just lifting the milk carton. I guess I will listen to you and continue having blocks. Wish me luck on the 16th. I hope all of you have a pain free day.
