Hi,

I would like to know if having RSD increases the risk of developing diabetes. Besides that, are diabetic people at increased risk of developing RSD?

I tried to research this subject some time ago since I am now borderline diabetic. The only connection I could come up with (asking other RSDers) is that most of us become less active & gain weight which invites diabetes. I've since gotten mine under "guarded control" with diet and losing about 20# so far - Shelley

hi i am diabetic and have rsd. diabetic part came first, ihave had it for 12 years and use a insulin pump to control it. i ask my rsd dr. if me having diabeties made me a greater risk for catching rsd, he really gave me no diffenet answer, he said there are not studies shown that more diabetics get it than normal people, the fact is that it took longer to diagonise me wiht the rsd due to my diabeties, becasue the sweeling wouldn't go away they thought at first that it was my diabeties, the part about not healing as fast, so when they did finally diagnose me i was in stage II but i haven't found any one else who is diabetic with rsd. hope this helps take care

Shelley, one of my doctors once told me I was borderline diabetic. I hope he is wrong. It is enough for me to battle with RSD, arthrits, etc.; I do not want to battle with diabetes.

Your explanation about why someone with RSD might become diabetic makes a lot of sense to me. I try to exercise as much as I can so as not to put on any weight, even though I love eating junk food.

Amanda, I did not know it takes longer to diagnose a person who has diabetes with RSD.
