Pain Attacks!!
Do any of you get sudden, unexpected, totally out of the blue pain attacks that surpass your usual level of pain?
During these attacks do you find that no amount of medication seems to lessen the pain, and you just have to ride it out?
I have RSD in my left foot and left thigh, I am usually at a pain level of 6 throughout the day if I do not take my base med of MSContin, if I take my base med, I can get to a 3 or 4 and function, for the most part, as a normal person. However, I get these flareups, from time to time ( it could be once a week or several times a day) that may last only 5 minutes or may hang around for hours where the pain level shoots to a 8-9 ( I never use 10, that is reserved for the worst pain imaginable). I will take my bt medication when this happens, but it does nothing.
I usualy get these flare-ups in my thigh, not my foot, and it seems as though they happen more at night than during the day, just a deep burning, crushing pain, my thigh will get so hot, that my entire body feels like I am in a sauna.
I have tried breathing techniques, which help from time to time, I also take a muscle relaxor(zanaflex) which seems to help some.
After I have a flare-up, and the pain subsides, my thigh will go cool to the touch, it feels numb on the surface and it feels like cool water or blood is surging through the area. It is a wierd sensation to go through, let alone describe. I will then have twitching and spasms in my leg and foot for a few hours after the pain stops.
Does anyone else ever get these kind of pain attacks? Do they vary from my experience? What sorts of things do you experience during an attack?
Thanks for any and all replies.
Peace
Terry
