Hi Joe
Welcome to our Board, but I'm sorry it's under such sad circumstances. I hope you do not have RSD, but alot of your symptoms do seem to point towards it.....
My husband has RSD in his left foot that was triggered by surgery in March, and it's progressed pretty fast because we didn't fight it as aggressively as we should have, I beleive.....
My advice is to first of all start a journal that records every single phone call and conversation you have with anyone...also how you're feeling different days and with different meds....it will help you later when you need to remember what happened when.....I wish I had!
Next, get AGGRESSIVE...don't let the Health Care System just push you along...you must demand referrals to other Dr.s who are more versed in RSD if you feel yours isn't, you should demand an aggressive treatment plan, hopefully get as many Spinal Blocks as fast as you can, along with Physical Therapy (somewhere with Aqua Therapy in a pool is best!), and demand pain releif! Don't be intimidated when they try to tell you Tylenol with Codeine should be enough....you DEMAND more! So many people here are on HEAVY narcotics...but hopefully you won't get that far....but some have suffered for way too long on the weakest painkillers.....it's ridiculous and torture to be in that kind of pain without relief. A big Hospital's Pain Center is where the Anesthesiologists are who can really help your pain and do the Spinal Blocks, so if it turns out to be RSD, get referred to one ASAP!
Good luck, do your homework, read back through alot of our threads here and you'll learn SOOO much....I've learned more here than anywhere else! Real stories...after you've visited the sites that tell medically what RSD is, this Support Group will tell you what it's REALLY like!
Talk again soon,
~Ange~
