*Blocks~Spinal Lumbar vs. Epidural Clonidine?? - Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Message Board

Hi All!

I'm confused about the difference between the Spinal Lumbar Blocks that Joey's had before, and the new Epidural Clonadine Block the Dr wants to do on Tuesday, when I spoke to the Dr. yesterday about trying to reschedule the one they had cancelled, he said he was waiting to find out the Protocol for the new treatment.....it kind of went past me at that moment and then I couldn't ask him since Joey took the phone.....

So has anyone else had the Epidural Clonadine Block? Joey has Clonadine 3 patch directly on his foot, and we don't even understand what the point of that is?????

I just looked it up online, and got a little bit of understanding about why its on his foot. Its harder to find however online the difference between the two blocks.

I see your confusion.

'tis another sleepless night here, I'll keep looking and see what I can find. I've never had a block of any kind, so I cant speak from any experience.

There's another board too that I can go look on that has a lot more RSD'ers on it and I'll look at some of thier posts and see what I can find.

Hello,

I have had the clonidine block both in the office and then my doc put the clodidine in my epidrual that i had for a week.

The Clonidine block is actually where the doc puts the meds directly into the epidural space where the spinal cord is. And the clonidine is a great med to help RSD'ers. It will make his foot really warm and not hurt at all untill it wears off or if it wears off. I was in heaven when I had the clonidine block and epidural! But with me it all wore off and was back at square one again, but hope the best for Joey!! The blcok is done no different then the other ones Joey has had, but it will make his BP really low bc the Clonidine is a blood pressure med and they put alot in to kick the RSD's butt. Have they said anything about doing the week long epidural??? That was my next step wheni was where Joey was. and then after that failed they suggested the Stimulator! When i had the epidural i was again in heaven and was off all pain meds and just on my nurontin, my doc said that is one of the best treatments for RSD'ers that are advancing fast. Worth asking about!!

Hey guys!

Thanks for the info....I didn't realize it yesterday but Joey actually DOES like that Clonadine 3 patch he has on his ankle, he thinks it's helping somehow, so it does sound promising to have a huge shot of it!

He's doing his Physical Therapy 3x/wk, and I couldn't believe it when he told me he first walked around the walking track they have at this Health Club, and then he actually RAN around it when his PT pushed him to TRY TRY TRY! Don't think of anything but running!

Of course, when he's home he's still hobbling like a 90 yr old man....hmmmm.....maybe some sympathy factor weighing in there?????
