Question ~~What's your favorite Anti-Depressant?~~

Hi Everyone,

Joey's going to a new Psych Dr, but she's never had an RSD patient before but is very interested in learning about it....she doesn't like all the Valium Joey's taking, but I told her he has very high anxiety and NEEDS an Anti-Anxiety.....she thinks it's contributing to his depression, and although she raised his Prozac to 3/day for this week, she's looking into what other Anti-Depressants may be better for RSD and go with all the other meds he's taking....plus she'd like to give him one that stimulates his appetite, since he's lost over 30lbs now and I'm worried about him....

I know I've seen you all talking about some of the ones that work well for you, but I can't seem to find the info now so I'm asking you again!

What do you do about the Anxiety too? Surely you're all very stressed out and have very high anxiety just like Joey? Do your Dr.s give you a hard time over Valium? Is there something else he could be on?

I know you're not Drs., but any advice is welcomed!

Thanks, you all are the BEST!

~Ange~

Hi Ange,......just read the post. Great news that Joey's new doctor is taking this interest in him. That's half the battle. I think the medication has to be tested for each individual. David started with Neurontin and Amitryptilin but was allergic to the Ami, and had to discontinue it. Now he has Tramadol instead. Remember too that many of the drugs you have in the States are not available in the UK, so the others will no doubt tell you what works for them. I did see on the net, that Prozac is also good. There is a growing feeling here in the UK that the fewer drugs you can take the better. So many have side effects which confuse the issue.
Meanwhile I hope Joey can have something from the new Doctor that will help him feel more comfortable. I guess we are all wishing that for him. For the longest time, David wanted only to be pain free. He has now accepted that that is unlikely ever to happen, and is thinking about ways to make himself more comfortable.

Stay strong Ange, you are such a support to Joey !!!!

Gentle hugs,
Edna

Thanks Edna and Cattys!

Back at the beginning, they put Joey on the Elavil (Amitryptaline) and we figured out that it was the thing making him very dizzy and faint! So we stopped that.

I also wanted to tell Edna that the Tramadol (Ultram) I think personally is an EVIL EVIL drug....all I saw in Joey was that it didn't help his pain at ALL, but yet got him horribly addicted to it!! He was a raging maniac when he was running out of it, and when I finally made him stop, the withdrawl for a few days was hell!

I know there's one Anti-Depressant several people have mentioned, but I can't remember the name of it! The Dr. did suggest she might try Zoloft.....I don't really care too much which it is until I see the results, I just hope it's about 50 times stronger than the Prozac!! We want Joey laughing and having fun again!

Thanks Everyone for your responses! I'll look forward to some more hopefully!

Hope you all have low pain days!

~Ange~

Ange:

I take Prozac 20 mg in the morning and have added Trazodone 100 mg before bed. This is such a great combination for me. The Trazodone makes me sleepy enough that I have great nights of sleep since after about the first week of taking it. It has helped me alot with the insomnia.
