In 1991 I was diagnosed with RSD. I was given 14(fourteen) stellate ganglion nerve blocks in 2(two) months. Over time l developed several health problems including deteriorated joints which has resulted in left & right total hip replacements (so far). Prior to the nerve blocks I was very healthy and very active. Now I'm totally opposite. Can anyone give me direction & insight on this issue? Oh, NONE of the blocks were image guided. The injection sites were guesstimated. HEEELP!!!.

How can they do the blocks and guestimate where the block is going! That is insane!!!! I think the first thing I would do is find a good lawyer!!! Oh, and a new doctor too!!! I didn't think you could do that many blocks in that short a period of time either! I know it cannot give you back your health but I would seriously look into getting an attorney!!! How often did they do the blocks on you? I have heard that they can do the blocks at one week intervals. I had two nerve blocks done one week apart....the first block put me in more pain than I was in before having the block, the second one put me in such severe back pain that I could barely walk!!!
Thanks for responding! To answer your question, they did the blocks one week or less apart. Since this happened I've done some research. The Cleveland Clinic Chronic Pain Center (not where the blocks were done) told me that they inject patients " one to two times per year, on rare occasion three times". I've also seen on various websites that are a diagnostic tool rather than a treatment. I'm hoping that more folks will respond to this forum and give me some insight and direction for more information. Thanks again .
I know it shouldn't be done more than once in a week and only up to three in a three week time period. I definitely believe they gave you way to many! It can be used diagnostically but it is also used as treatment. Mine was two part: I had an ankle injury plus the RSD pain. At the time, they were not for certain that I had RSD. After they did the nerve block, I didn't have any pain other than the pain from the injury so that confirmed the RSD diagnosis. It is used as treatment because by doing the block, it does act as a pain reliever.
I'm having my 3rd and Final Stallite Ganglion Block tomorrow! My dr. told my that he will not do more then 3 on me as it is too dangerous to the nerve cluster. He said that it is used as a diagnostic tool as well as hopefully, a pain relieving procedure. For me, I have NOT had any pain relief as of yet. I pray that tomorrow will bring me some.
I'm so sorry for what you have and are going though. A lawyer may or may not help you. It truly depends on what you signed prior to each procedure.
I just started juicing. Mostly fruits with chia seeds, flax seeds and other add ins. The veggies only contain non greens since I'm on Coumadin. Have you tried boosting your system through diet?
I'm in pain 24/7! I've totally lost the use of my right hand, arm and shoulder to RSD. I've been to the Cleveland clinic and they said the same thing...3 SG Blocks is all they will do. Their next suggestion was a SCS. I am not ready for that. I'm researching other options no. Liking what I read on here regarding Calmare Therapy.
I'll pray for you.
Hi Jodessa, let me know if you want more info on Calmare, as I have experience with that. I'd like to hear about your stellate ganglion block, because I've never heard of those before. Could you tell me a little about it? Does it only work on certain areas of the body, or is it good for any affected area? Have you had any lumbar blocks?
I had the s Stallitte ganglion block Monday but it didn't work. Yesterday I went for acupuncture and that was amazing. I had relief for 14 hours. I couldn't believe it. I went to a place called The Dancing Crane in Salem, Virginia. Greg Johnston was warm, caring and compassionate and spent 2 hours with me. He doesn't think I'm nuts! It didn't hurt at all and I actually feel asleep... A sound sleep. That is something I haven't done since I got hurt. I cant wait to go back today!
We just started my daughter on acupuncture last week, because her foot got so messed up from being in a surgery boot for 9 months. She's had 2 appointments, and we're seeing some improvement. They do acupuncture and reflexology, which is a pressure-point kind of massage, I think. The reflexology thing seems especially helpful to her.
I'm so happy to hear you're geting relief!!! We can all understand how great that is.
i had 5 SGNB for the RSD in my left hand. I had some relief after each block. But it has been in remission for over a year now. It did spread to my right foot. So far I have had 3 LSNB with minimal relief. I am holding onto hope as I did have relief after 5 the last time. They were done either 2x a month or 1x month so I had them spread out over time, Good luck
