Question Question for the Mods

I have a question about the posting rules that I can't seem to find the answer when I read the rules, so I thought I'd come straight to the source.

Are we not allowed to suggest searching the .Net to a member seeking information? I see that one of my posts was edited, and it took me awhile to figure out what was edited (I'm a bit simple minded!), and I realized it was the part where I had suggested this member search the .Net for research and further information regarding her condition. I have done this in the past and I didn't realize that it wasn't allowed. So, am I understanding that we canNOT suggest using the Internet for further research and information?

Also, I read something on this section of the Healthboards that stated the following: "a company that spams and abuses the boards". It was about someone wondering why a name had been censored out. How do companies or anyone for that matter spam and abuse the boards? Does a rep from their company come in here and get our information some how? Or are they using their reps who sell certain health products post on the board? I guess I don't understand how the board can be spammed for one, or how it can be abused by certain people or companies on the Internet. Can you please explain this futher to me? No big reason, I just would like to understand it.

I know I get a LOT of spam in one of my email accounts.

Thank you for your time.

It is not allowed to post any kind of information to find websites, including searches.

Anyone can think of doing a search to use the internet for research and information.

It is their affiliates and reps who post messages to sell the products.

No one is able to get your information from Healthboards.com

Re: Question for the Mods

QUOTE from the Posting Rules:

"Posting any kind of information on how to find products, services, businesses, commercial sites, message boards, or chats is cause to be banned."

That includes referring others to do searches...why? Because it is a common spam practice. We can't tell them not to do so and let anyone else. As mod2 mentioned, everyone understands that they can do internet searches.
