I can relate to what you're going through. I have been dating my fiancee for a little over 4 years and I'd say that around the 3rd year of being together I had this feeling of boredom. It seemed like he never tried to think of anything to do when we'd go out, he never did the "little things" anymore and we seemed to be in a routine. I confronted him about it and of course he got defensive and a bit upset. He told me that he's just comfortable with me now so he didn't think he had to prove his love to me like he had to in the beginning. Since I brought it up he's been better. Suprising me once in a while with a good idea for a date or buying me little things.

Since you've been dating so long it should be easy to open up to him and tell him that you miss the "old" way he used to act. Tell him that you feel like you're in a routing. I can see how it would be hard to discuss such a thing with someone you hardly know but this is a guy you've spent 4 years of your life with! He probably doesn't even realize that you want him to do these things. He's comfortable with you and your relationship and figures you feel the same way. I think once you tell him how you're feeling you'll see a bit of an improvement. LIke I said, my boyfriend was defensive and a little offended at first but he came around to a "girls point of view".
