boyfriend's sister - Relationship Health Message Board

I've been dating the greatest guy in the world for about a month. Here's what is bugging me: he's very close to his sister, who is 2 years younger than him. They hang out together all the time. That's fine. But I feel like maybe she resents me being around 'cause now I'm there, too. She's hard to talk to, no matter how hard I try to talk about things that interest her. When we all hang out in a group, she tends to bring up experiences that she and her brother had together, inside joke-like stuff. Am I paranoid, or do you think she may want her brother all to herself? I'm nervous 'cause we'll all be at the same wedding tomorrow. My boyfriend is in the wedding, so I'll be hanging out with his sister a lot. How should I handle this so it doesn't suck for me??

It sounds like his sister is a little possessive. Maybe the wedding will be good for getting to know her better. After learning about you and how much you love & respect her brother she might give you guys some breathing room. I would put her previous antics behind you and concentrate on making her feel comfortable with you. Let the great attributes of your personality show! Hopefully she'll come around. Have you mentioned this to your boyfriend? Blood is thick so you have to be careful, but if it continues you have to make your feelings known or you'll continue to feel left out.

mrsfriendly, thank you for the advice. it made me feel better. the wedding went very well. i got along with his sister a little better, and there was another girlfriend there, so that helped a lot. i think with time and a little effort, this will work out. thanks!!!
