Angry I am angry beyond words!!! What are the chances of me getting sick?

My aunt dragged her sick kid over to my house today (with a chunky cough, sneezing, runny nose, phlegm, etc.), fully knowing that she was sick. You see, my aunt is the most selfish person I know; she denies that her daughter is sick because she knows that no one wants to be around a sick kid and risk getting sick themselves. BUT because she's so selfish, she doesn't let that interfere with her good time, and she drags her daughter with her everywhere, anyway.

Now this is what I'm irritated about (as if that wasn't enough): My mother told them last night to not come over because she could hear that the little kid was still sick in the background (over the phone), but my aunt unexpectedly stopped by today ANYWAY when she knew that JUST I was home... and when she was at the door, she had already taken all of her food, toys, diaper bags, etc. out of the car so there was no way I'd just say "hey, you have to leave" after seeing that she had already brought everything out. She came in and was like, "Give your cousin a hug" and my cousin was hanging all over me and hugging me and trying to play games, draw, and put together puzzles. She coughed twice, right in my face, and I tried not to breathe, but I'm sure there's no way to avoid that.

I was on a VERY high dose of Prednisone about a month ago, which I know lowers your immune system drastically. I'm currently sick with a sinus infection too, doing my nebulizer because my asthma is so out of control, taking inhailed steroids, as well as antibiotics (which no longer work because I've become resistant to them due to so many sinus infections). In 3 days I'm having Botox injected into my neck, shoulders, and around my shoulder blades to give some relief to my muscles after an injury I had a few years back.

I CANNOT AFFORD TO GET SICK! I've already had to cancel once because of a virus (that I caught from the same kid, I believe) that gave me a rash everywhere, sore throat, headache, you name it!

So my question in all of this? How likely do you think it is that I'll get sick before Tuesday? I hope you can help me with this! THANK YOU!!!!!!

Re: I am angry beyond words!!! What are the chances of me getting sick?

Go to Walgreens or Walmart if you have one and get this stuff called Airborne. Take it how it says on the bottle and it should help you not to get sick. Get it ASAP though or it may not work as well. It will be somewhere around the cold medicines. You mix it with water and drink it. It is not the best tasting thing in the world but its not like cough syrup or anything.

I know how you feel but in a different way. My hubby's cousin's kid keeps lice all the time and she called today and told me her daughter was bored and asked if my daughter could either come over to her house or her daughter come here. I told her my kids were going to their mamaw's house to spend the night!! I lied!! I know its wrong but she keeps lice and I dont want it!!! So I advoid her at all costs and she has never taken the hint. She aggervates the crap out of me!! Anyway, I dont blame you for being ****** about it, I get ****** when she shows up at my house unannounced. I freak out!!!
I hope the airborne helps!!

Re: I am angry beyond words!!! What are the chances of me getting sick?

I have no idea how likely it is that you will get sick, though I would have thought it would be a good idea to dose yourself up with loads of Vit C, zinc, echinacea etc, just in case.
As far as the rest of your story goes, my personal opinion is that you should have done exactly what you said you couldn't do - ie say "No, you have to take the child home again". If you have a compromised immune system for any reason, everyone should be notified that they absolutely cannot come to visit if they are suffering from any kind of contagious or infectious illness. Even if this woman insists on denying that the child is ill, her symptoms prove her wrong and she should be told in no uncertain terms that it is up to you who enters your house.
I hope you don't come down with anything.

Re: I am angry beyond words!!! What are the chances of me getting sick?

I've taken one Airborne tablet a day for almost two years now and have not had ONE cold...
It certainly works for me (I have a high customer count job) & that is all that matters!

LICE IS JUST SOOOOO GROSS! I can't believe that mother doesn't find a way to get rid of it!

My aunt is just irritating because she ALWAYS denies that her daughter is sick, even when it's blatantly obvious. I feel like it's detrimental to her daughter's health because she won't take her to the doctor, but it's so irritating because she is just so inconsiderate to other people. She's only concerned with herself, when she's bored and looking to get out of the house, when she needs a break from taking care of her kid (so she pawns her off on someone else by unexpectedly showing up at their house), etc. And she KNOWS THAT I'M SICK TOO! That's what's even worse! When she came in the house, my nebulizer was all set up, I was popping pills left and right (from allergy medicine to asthma stuff to antibiotics), and I couldn't even open my eyes because my head hurt so bad. Yet even though she OBVIOUSLY saw that, she just ignored it and was talking about how they went to the park, and how she bought bedspreads and tried to make me go outside to her car and give her my opinion on their new bedspreads!!! How dare she!

Being very irriated by this point, I simply said, "No," kind of in disbelief with a huff and rolling my eyes. Then she said (like SHE had any right to be ******!), "She's NOT sick, if that's what you're worried about." ... So she knew that I was obviously concerned about it, and basically admitted that she completely just disregarded it.

Here goes the last little bit of my vent: I specifically had my mother tell her over the phone last night to not come over because I can't afford to get sick, and she acted so shocked, but she agreed. Then she shows up the next morning?!!?!?! Like somehow her daughter made a miraculous recovery?!!?!

A few weeks ago at my mother's birthday party, I couldn't even go because she insisted on bringing her sick daughter... Can you believe that? I couldn't go to my own mother's birthday because my aunt wouldn't let her sick child get in the way of her good time, and she knew that she couldn't find a babysitter, so she just dragged her out anyway and made everyone else uncomfortable the entire night!!!

ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! I just despise her! And the reason why her daughter is always sick is because she INSISTS on taking her to playgroups every 2 weeks. Her daughter has a weakened immune system, and thus, she gets sick EVERY time she goes there. By the time she's better, she's sick again. She's 18 months old, and my aunt proclaims, "MY daughter will have friends. MY daughter will go to schools and have lots, and lots, and LOTS of friends. She already has more friends than YOU, Melissa."

^^ That's a whole other thing: I'm out of school right now from a back injury (I can't even sit, stand, or walk), and she constantly rubs it in my face as if it were my choice. She's such a ______________. Fill in with your choice of words. LOL

Why does she say these things to her neice, you ask? She's jealous because she knows that she's the most ugly person in the family (both inside and out) and she's unhappy in her marriage, so she tries to pick apart everyone else in order to make herself feel better. When I take Prednisone for my asthma, the first thing she says to me is, "You know that that will make you fat and get excessive body hair, right?". Oh yeah, like I have a choice: DIE from not breathing, or take the risk that I may get some extra hair on my body. Yeah, I'll definitely opt for the death, NOT!

Ahh, well I feel better now from venting (thanks for listening!!! ), and I'll look into getting that Airborne stuff/vitamins. I already caught it though, because I have a drippy nose, extremely sore throat, and nausea (which I didn't have before today). Oh joy...

I can understand how you feel. People like that make me sick. First of all, it is not fair to her daughter dragging her everywhere when she is ill. Would she want to be dragged everywhere when she is ill? When you are ill and you are still out and about, people will still expect you to have the same output and be able to "keep up" with them even though you don't feel like it. And with your underlying illnesses and the immune system reducing meds you are on, what she is doing is unfair to you.

I'd recommend higher doses of vitamin c at least 1 gram every 4-6 hours. I'd also recommend zicam products to reduce the severity.

As for me, for day to day health, I take a centrum, about 900 mg of calcium and 4000 mg of vit c daily and I stay pretty healthy. I eat healthily, exercise moderately and try to manage stress. I ride the germy public transportation as my family has no car and I have yet to get ill. It is an overall lifestyle thing. But of course, my situation is different as I haven't had prednisone since I was little and the same thing with inhalers. The only immune lowering drug I am on is an allergy nasal spray called nasonex and even with that my supplements and overall lifestyle have helped keep me healthy. You need all of the help you can get with your conditions to stay healthy in the cold and flu season. Do you take vitamins? I wish you a speedy recovery.

Re: I am angry beyond words!!! What are the chances of me getting sick?

I posted earlier about starting Zicam again because it has always worked in the past for me. I've had a cold for 2 wks.

I know about people losing their sense of smell.

I just read the post about the guy who's been a pharmacist for 30 years who said all that stuff--Airborne, Zicam, etc. is junk.

Now I'm rethinking my decision to try Zicam again.

Re: I am angry beyond words!!! What are the chances of me getting sick?

In the future, don't let the woman in your house - Plain and simple. My mother gets sick just by looking at someone else if they are sick, so now, she doesn't let them in her house. To avoid a family feud, she tells the person "I am sorry, I am not feeling well and don't want you to catch what I have. Please don't come in. If you need to talk to me, please call me on the phone".
She learned this trick after my step sister brought over her son who was sick. My stupid step sister even came over with a bucket because her son was throwing up! Needless to say, my mother became very ill and wasn't able to attend my wedding! She has never forgiven my step sister. Now she just doesn't let anyone in the house unless she knows FOR SURE they aren't sick or dragging in a puke bucket!

Re: I am angry beyond words!!! What are the chances of me getting sick?

a cold takes about ten days to develop so you will probably not have one by teusday. Also, colds are only contageous within the first two or three days, and coughing/sniffling afterwards is just run off, so if she had been sick for over three days, you are probably in the clear.

third, and not to sound like a b++++ b/c your aunt does not take your concerns seriously, no kid who is sick wants to be at home with a babysitter when they are sick. and sometimes babysitters ARE TOUGH to find.

I agree with the poster who said next time stick to your guns and don't allow them over...maybe your aunt doesn't recognize you are not a kid anymore.

I would call doctor and ask him what to do. I wouldn't take any addittional drugs or vitamins on your own since you already taking so much medicine.

Re: I am angry beyond words!!! What are the chances of me getting sick?

Airborne is not JUNK!!!! I love it is has saved my butt so many times. I haven't been sick in over a year because I take Airborne every time before I go into public or if a sick friends is coming over to visit. Don't listen to that other person it really works. If it didn't then it wouldn't be as big as it is. I have no health insurance and I have bad asthma and I cant afford to get sick. SO I relie on AIRBORNE and it definitely works. SO give the airborne a shot I am POSITIVE you wont be sorry and it will be a new addition you cant live without! I really does work well. Everyone in my family and my boyfriends family uses it.

Re: I am angry beyond words!!! What are the chances of me getting sick?

DanielleX51m, thanks for posting. I'm going to keep some handy. I have used it before a long time ago. If it works for you, it can work for me.

I've heard so many sceptics, but if it works, it works.
