Ex wants to know if he was "special"

OK so just got a totally random email from my ex who I broke up with literally 15+ years ago. We've stayed in touch as friends, but out of nowhere I just got an email from him saying he always felt a "special connection" with me and is wondering if I felt the same way or if he was just another guy. Why would he send this now after all this time?! Really confused...

Re: Ex wants to know if he was "special"

Sounds to me as if his ego has gotten shot down recently and he's looking as hard as he can for some validation. I would be very careful here. If you are married, I would not even reply. No need to open a can of worms.

I think he is fishing to see if you'd be interested in hooking up again.

I'd pretend I never got the e-mail.

Re: Ex wants to know if he was "special"

Sounds to me like he's found himself single, and tired of trying out new girls, and would like something familiar and stable. What you do really depends on your status at this point. If your married or engaged, I'd leave it alone. If your single, but not interested, I'd leave it alone. If your single and he really wasn't terrible, but the two of you broke up because you were headed in different directions or something like that, I might bite. But no matter what you do, I wouldn't stroke his ego, or exagerate your feelings here.
