I guess...if it were a husband....I would be rightly upset if he didn't get me SOMETHING...even just a card, a flower...something, to show that he cared. I am not big on receiving material items, but all the same, I would like to receive a letter or card with a sentimental blurb on it, rather than a gift. And..if it were my bf...the same thing...I would be happy with some acknowledgement of the holiday, whether it be the smallest thing..a flower from a garden, a handwritten note, a home-cooked dinner...whatever! I just want to know that they care. If you have not been seeing the guy for very long (i.e. a week or whatever)...then perhaps it is not unacceptable, although *I*, personally, would have gotten the other person something. I guess it depends on what you're comfortable with. Gifts, themselves, don't represent anything..it is the thought behind them that counts.
