For anyone in Internet relationships - Relationship Health Message Board

Hi ya'll,

I have been reading postings regarding internet relationships.As a person that has been in 2 strong IR,please please take it slow,get to know one another as deeply as you can and PLEASE meet and spend lots of quality time together before you fall in love.

Iam sure they can work out for the best,however speaking from experience I was burned twice.From what I have gone thru,I have loved both men I met deeply only to end up getting hurt.The hurt is great and painful.

I do however wish each of you all the best,and pray that your love,marriage or relationship is long lasting and happy.

i totally agree with Jasmine, and i would add that internet relationships differ little from any other. be careful and don't rush into anything you feel will not be sustainable - that would be my main tip.

i too have had 2 IRs, including my current one with a wonderful girl i met on a dating site. however, the relationship before that turned sour as my partner underwent a complete personality change in the space of a couple of months. just, be careful and take it slow!!!

How on EARTH is it possible NOT to fall in love too fast.That is something I have never been able to do.Do you have any tips on how to keep those feelings from surfacing?If you do,please share.

obviously you can't help the way you feel about someone and i'm not suggesting it's always possible to take things slowly. however, too many people (myself included) have rushed in too quickly on their first instincts and have been the recipients of a nasty shock. i still believe it's better to get to know the person as well as possible before becoming too committed.

Do you think it's possible to fall in love with someone you've never met? I hear stories like that all the time. People say they had an internet relationship and talked on the phone and fell madly in love, but I guess because I've never experienced it, I still find it hard to believe. But I do agree that's very easy to become attached to someone you meet online. Because they're not in front of you, you tend to fill in a lot of the gaps with your own imagination. I fell into this trap and it caused my expectations to be too high so that when I finally met the person, I was disappointed.
