A kiss is a good sign - it doesn't have to be passionate (are we talking first date here?) but it's definitely more than just a polite peck on the cheek.
However he could just be following the common "kiss goodnight + promise to call" routine that most first/early dates end in. It sounds like he isn't sure of what will happen tomorrow/next week, and it certainly doesn't sound like he is overly enthusiastic about seeing you again, but then again in most cases feelings develop slowly and the first couple of dates can be awkward.
The brief kiss is a good sign but I wouldn't interpret it as particularly passionate or a sign that he'll be showering you in flowers and presents in the near future.
(And before you ask, no it doesn't mean he wants to marry you and make babies with you anytime soon
