Cool Mirapex + Sinemet for RLS

I'm 48 years old and have RLS since grade school but diagnosed 6 years ago. After much playing with different doses and regimes of Sinemet 25-100 I could not get a whole night sleep because drug effect did not last. Neurologist added 0.5 mg of Mirapex before going to bed and 95% of the time I've been able to sleep well. Present meds and doses are Sinemet 25-100 (yellow pill - not the controlled release type), 1.5 pills late in the afternoon and 0.5 mg of Mirapex before going to bed. So far it works!

I read about the iron supplement, IŽll try it and let you guys know if it really works.

Sometimes when the RLS is so bad, it "spreads" to the arms.

Re: Mirapex + Sinemet for RLS

What type of drugs are Mirapex and Sinement? I suffer everynight when I lay down to go to sleep. My legs are between twitching, jumping to painful cramps. My doctor tried me on several drugs, all made me sleepy the next day. I now take a 1 mg ativan before going to bed, and this has been working. However, do not want to stay permanently on this drug. Tell me more!

Re: Mirapex + Sinemet for RLS

Both Sinemet 25/100 and Mirapex have been widely used for ParkinsonŽs disease and, as all drugs, have side effects. Mirapex may cause sleepiness but at my dose (0.5 mg) it rarely happens and I use it at bedtime anyway.

Sinemet 25/100 is available in generic form.

RLS appears to be a lifetime bother, therefore, we are tied to drugs for the long run as I know of no cure.

Re: Mirapex + Sinemet for RLS

I think anyone with RLS needs to be SO CAREFUL with Sinemet. Studies have shown that 85% of those who take it have augmentation -- which means you get it worse than you've ever had it during daytime hours. Lots of people think their RLS is worse, take more Sinemet and get on this revolving pattern. You might try no Sinemet and only Mirapex. (I"ve had RLS all my life -- tried everything - now taking .5 of Klonopine and .125 of Mirapex (once in afternoon and once before bed). I've been doing that since October and I haven't slept this well in about 15 years.

Thumbs up Re: Mirapex + Sinemet for RLS

Thanks for the warning of Sinemet augmentation of RLS. It has happened to me on a few occassions, it gets real bad not only on legs but also on arms. However, taking an extra half pill of sinemet or 0.5 mirapex usually stops the augmented RLS.

What is klonopine?

Thanks

Thanks for the info on dosage - I may try the sinemet- About the iron supplement - Everything I've read has indicated to make sure to consult the doctor before adjusting iron levels on your own...just a caution.

Re: Mirapex + Sinemet for RLS

Sinemet actually made my legs feel better but in less than a month, I would get the symptoms earlier and earlier in the day and then I had to stop the med all together b/c the restless legs were always worse than the day before. So I call Mirapex my miracle drug. Sometimes I have to get up and take a third one but that is rare, but normally I take 2 sometimes before I go to bed. Besides a little bit of drowsiness, I have had no side effects. But a indirect benefit is that now that I sleep my fibromyalgia is significantly better and that has been a relief as well.
