Rls????

Hi there,

I am at my the end of my tether with this. Almost a year ago I suffered 3 severe headaches at the back of my head/neck. I had two weeks of dizziness before attending ER. Here I had a lumbar puncture and CT scan all normal. A month later while awaiting a CT Angiogram I started getting this tingling prickly burning sensation (mostly prickly now). Neurologist was not interested and dismissed. Got a second opinion from a neuroseurgon and he also said "put up with them". He did an MRI of neck and middle and lower back. I have a slight wear on a disc near my neck and a slight wear near my lower back. but he said overall that my MRI is "Normal" and it did not have anything to do with this feeling. I work at a computer every day but this "prickly feeling" is driving me insane. Sometimes it goes away but this is the worst stint of it (10 days). When I awake in the mornings its virtually not there but as soon as I get up I can feel it coming on. My Doctor does not know. Can anyone shed some light. Is the MRI a definative test and will it show everything?

P.S. I have put out my neck on 4 different occasions in the last 1.5 years.
My lower back has always been weak!

As far as I know, M.R.I.'s are probably the best kind of imaging test you can get. My husband gets restless legs alot, and from what I know of it, it's more of a squirmy feeling than pins and needles or prickly. But, good luck to ya!!

Re: Rls????

I suffered from restlegs for a long time at night. Finally my husband asked if I was still taking Vitamin E 800 I.U. and I was. He suggested it might be the vitamin E. Stopped the vitamin E and in a few days legs were better and in 2 weeks the restless feeling was gone. Has been 2 years now and no more restless legs.

Apparently the Vitamin E 800 I.U. had built up over the years (since 1986) and my body could not tolerate it anymore. I have since learned that vitamin A causes me to not feel good and had to stop taking multi-vitamin with A.

All the antioxidants we were told to take to prevent problems seem to be causing problems after long term taking.

Re: Rls????

Wiggy - Where is this tingling prickly burning sensation? In your legs? In your neck? In your arms? You didn't say. When does it occur? Mostly at night? Day or night?

I'll assume that it is in your legs, since you posted on the RLS board. If it runs down the side of your legs, since you say you've had a bad lower back, I'd say it sounds more like sciatica than RLS.

I landed in the hospital in traction for four days in 1973 due to severe spasms in my lower back, and I was totally unable to walk. Though I never had a test to confirm it, the assumption due to my symptoms was that it was a disk problem in my lower back. My doctor forewarned me that I would probably need disk fusion within ten years. He was absolutely shocked that when I left that area 17 years ago, I still hadn't needed it. I still haven't. (I suspect my arthritis has fused it!) However, I do get sciatica every once in a while when I'm not careful with my lower back, when I over-do working in the yard or something. It is pain or a tingly feeling shooting down the side of my right leg. The only two solutions I've found have been a muscle relaxant and bed rest until my lower back "calms down" again.

Re: Rls????

Sorry for not being specific. Its in my legs. Mostly around the knees. If its on one knee its on the other knee. It can then move to my shin bone and dissappear from my knee. Its nearly always symetricial. Its better at night when lying down and is rarely there in the mornings when I wake up. However, when I get up it comes along again. Wearing shorts helps as clothes seem to make it worse. Its not pain but mostly prickly. Sometimes tingly and burning....
