RLS began in late evening before bedtime. Was taking pramipexole, but stopped after finding side effects included obsessive behavior and hindered weight loss - 3 maxed out credit cards later, and months of limiting daily caloric intake to 1000 and walking 2 miles daily with no results. After much research, found low seratonin levels cause RLS. Now snacking on nuts, bananas, etc that boost seratonin. Have lost 10 lbs in one month and my dr also okayed nightly Nyquil in small doses, or glass of wine before retiring. RLS is under control!
I have found that alcohol consumption greatly increases my RLS symptoms, which also are only at night. I take folic acid in AM, so will try taking that at night instead. When mine gets really severe, my husband massages my thighs in front, which helps some. So do heating pads or bed buddys heated up and applied. It is a miserable condition to try to deal with, and I hope in time, more is understood about RLS and treatment options are expanded.
