It is possible you have both acne and rosacea. But yes derms usually do this, claim you first have acne and give you antibiotics then if they don't work they will re-diagnose you saying you have another problem like dermatitis or rosacea.

What are you exact symptoms? Have they worsened over the years? Are you male/female? What form of flushing do you experience and where does it mainly occur? It is strange to have rosacea at your age but it is very possible.

Do you ever use BP? I ask this because I had one derm diagnose me with rosacea after I began using BP (which caused my face to look red/flushed). Later on (when seeing another derm), I was told I had rosacea because my skin was dry and a bit red...(which was actually caused by the face wash and scrub I was using). Do you use any harsh scrubs/medicated washes/or BP? These can often make the skin to "appear" as though it has rosacea.

im male. redness appear mainly on nose and on the left and right side of the nose. but, most of the time when my acne got better my nose wasnt red. i have redness on forhead too, but only last weeks because i got lots of acne on that area. she told me that i have dermatitis too, and i use some kind of shampoo. my face got worse in last two weeks, and before that sometimes it was very good, but it would change within days. one day is very good and the next very bad. i stop using bp long time ago. i heard that there is no cure for rosacea is that true? btw, my skin is not dry, its very, very oily.

Re: rosacea..please reply

When I first read that rosacea usually affects people of the age 30 and up, I was actually surprised. I am also 21, but I have had rosacea since at least high school. I never thought it was a serious skin disease until recently. I haven't been diagnosed officially, but I am sure I have it. I get red very easily, whether it is in uncomfortable situations, or drinking just a tiny bit of alcohol, eating spicy foods, and when exercising. My face is also a tinge red normally, even though it's not like that when I wake up.

I also have some blackheads, and I used to have some whiteheads. Also, I had oily skin until my recent bout with allergies that made my skin extremely dry. All I can say is be careful with the acne products, make sure you dont use too many and nothing that harsh- bec. apparently most acne treatments will make rosacea worst. Medically there's no cure for it, but I've read that there are some internal cleanses you can do that will cure it (do a search in this board or google).

You could always ask another dermatologist for a second opinion. Good luck!
