When my symptoms of sarcoidosis first appeared I was completely baffled.. Painful, tender lumps first turned up on both of my arms in nearly the exact same place. I left it for a week mainly because of my job I am on the go the whole time, I can't just get up and go. Other reasons being I try to stay immune to pain, I saw it as a burden more than a potential illness!! Then they appeared all over my legs, now then it got a bit more serious. I went to the doctor and he temporarily diagnosed it as Sarcoidosis until I got further tests done. Went to specialists, got lung function tests and blood tests done and was diagnosed with the disease.
It has caused severe swelling in my joints, because i am on the go all day every day I don't notice it until I get in at evening time and sit down. I took steroids for 3 weeks and it was no help. I get bad, what I can only describe as painful cramps, in my hands and the sole of my feet, swollen ankles, painful joints in my knees and elbows. Its become a burden, I try to ignore it and stay immune to it but as I work outside all day, when the sun comes it really makes my life hell. I've no energy most of the time, sleep through my days off. Not the liveliest of 21 year olds..!
I am struggling with it, mainly because my job requires a lot of me, I can't just take bad days off. Nurofen is my only option at the moment but is only a temporary fix. I've struggled with it mentally, meaning on my days off or any other free time I want to enjoy it.. not be tired or crippled in pain.
I don't think there's enough help out there for patients, whether it be medication or helping them emotionally and mentally with understanding this illness, whether the patient is younger or older. Having arthritic like symptoms at this age and being such a lively person it is hard and I was wondering is there anyone else going through this at my age and as bad?
