I was on Geodon for 3 years until I developed EPS, which was a very frightening experience that lasted for 2 days. I was on a rather high dose of the drug, but as soon as the EPS occurred, I was abruptly advised to stop taking the drug, which I did. I have had severe anxiety and depression since late March which was when I stopped taking Geodon. I see the Psychiatrist tomorrow. I hate going in to tell him that I am feeling terrible, that this is the lowest point of my life (so far), and the antidepressants have not helped in the slightest. He offers ECT for med resistant depression, which I absolutely refuse!!! I have withdrawn from everything. I can no longer function normally. I was accepted into nursing school and had to turn down the offer as I became too depressed, too nervous, sleeping excessive hours. My concern is for whatever reason that the Geodon was effective for me. It was used as best as I can explain as an atypical anti-anxiety medication. I am currently taking 4mg of Klonopin (clonazepam) per day which does almost nothing for my anxiety. I take it because I am addicted at this point; to decrease the dosage by .5mg is agonizing. The 90mg of Remeron was supposed to help. Needless to say, it hasn't done anything but make me sleep. I really don't know what to do. I fear the worst - that I have schizophrenia that has gone unnoticed and misdiagnosed as other disorders were treated (unsuccessfully): major depression, anxiety and OCD. I was always considered strange and eccentric in my younger years. I'm scared. Maybe I should suggest Abilify? I'm sure he'd be reluctant to prescribe Geodon again.

go home and live with your pain
leave alone
leave alone 'cos you know you don't belong
you don't belong here
Geodon is a medicine that is used to treat schizophrenia primarily. Tell me, what exactly were you diagnosed with so that your doctor prescribed it if not schizophrenia? I guess sometimes doctors use the same medicines to treat different problems...
Did you have depression with psychotic features? Because otherwise, I can't imagine why you would have taken an anti-psychotic medication. You didn't mention bipolar disorder, and they're used for anxiety in very rare cases. Do you have depressive delusions like, "God's going to punish me for some bad deed"?

Huh. That's odd that they would have given you an anti-psychotic then. Since you didn't mention OCD before, the only other reason I can think of that you would be taking a schizophrenia-type drug is if you truly believe that your obsessions are real, even when you're not obsessing. A small fraction of OCD-ers can be delusional and not know that the intrusive thoughts are originating from their own mind, but rather think that they're coming from some outside source like radio transmission. If you don't qualify for this either, it seems rather strange that you wouldn't have been automatically given an SSRI like Zoloft or Paxil, which are used to treat all three of your disorders: major depression, OCD, and anxiety...
