Paranoia - Schizophrenia Message Board

Hello i'm new here and diagnosed as schizo-affective. I suffer badly with paranoia, i'm terrified that i've done something wrong, some crime, and the police are on their way. I've felt like this for 4 years. I am on anti-psychotics but they don't seem to be helping. I felt quite well and this lifted from feb-may and then stress brought it back. I'm so frightened. I'm 24, please help.

It's a fixed thing but i swear i can#t talk about it as i'm too paranoid. I wake up and feel ok, then 2 seconds BAM! it's back, i feel like that all day then, and i have panic all thru the day. Thanks for the help. xx

Sorry you feeling this. You know that when the feeling lifted earlier in the year that u know that it is paranoia. All I can add is that as long as you can tell yourself that it is paranoia and allow yourself to acknowledge it then it should take some of the energy out of what you are feeling. I know it doesnt help much when its happening, but if you just let yourself calm down and know that the feeling is not true but just your brain working overtime, hopefully you will be able to cope with these feelings more easily,

Hi!

I'm a 21 year old who is also diagnosed with Schizoaffective disorder. I too suffered in the past with severe paranoia. But at this point in my life I feel that I have come through it for now. I may relapse later but for now I am doing really well.

The biggest trick that I learned was positive self talk. This means telling yourself that things are not how they seem and reinforcing positive statements to yourself. Aka "Everyone is looking at me" becomes "I know that this is paranoia and therefor I know that people are more focused on themselves than they are on me." Just knowing that it is paranoia is very helpful becuase then you can recognize it for what it is and tell yourself that it is just paranoia and that it is wrong.

Are you on any drugs or have come off of a certain drug in the recent past?
