Question trying to conceive

my fiancee and i both suffer from schizophrenia. i don't quite understand the mechanics of it all, but he came back from his shrink the other day and almost ...well he did, but he changed his mind later...broke up with me because his doctor said there was no way for him to safely father a child, given all the drugs he is taking. they'd cause birth defects and such...does anyone out there know if this is true? aren't there options? he doesn't want to adopt or do the whole artificial thing, so...yeah. looked online all week, but there isn't much information out there...

Re: trying to conceive

Hi,

I just read ur post and it must be quite worrying for u what u heard from ur doctor but i think u should get a 2nd opinion. Actually i was diagnosed with schizophrenia a few years ago and i am currently on risperdal 3mg everyday. I am quite stable and just trying to piece my life back together i.e pick up the pieces and all that. Well i am also concerned about being able to have kids with my girlfriend and will be interested to find out if that is possible with the medication.
I wish u all the best and like i said get a 2nd opinion. May i also ask which medication u are currently taking and ur boyfriend too?

goodluck

Re: trying to conceive

Hi me and my wife have been told the same ******** by our GP,so we pushed the matter further with the local fertility clinic.
The out come was very helpful the only problem the had was my wife was on clopixal which they had no human data for.
They found an alternative for her and now we are on our second stage of IVF treatment.
So don't give up and never take for granted what some narrow minded bigot has to say always ask for a second opion.

PS fight all the way.

Re: trying to conceive

Hi,I have asked my doctor about this matter she told me you can have kids no problem, the meds dosent effect fertility or cause any problems beside diabetes type 2 if you are fat you must watch your self and make a regular blood sugar test.I was taking zaypraxa my blood suger was high ,when the doctor told me to stop it and take respirdal it became normal.I heard that the FDA will put a warning on all psychotic meds that it may cause diabetes in some patient ,so they take caution.
