Lightbulb Coping Skills for Voices?

I work at a group home for women with mental illness. My newest client is having difficulty with auditory hallucinations. We are currently in the process of making a list of coping skills that she can use to reduce/deal with the voices. I know that everyone is different, and coping skills vary much from person to person. But, I was wondering if anyone could give some suggestions, such as ways they have coped in the past, that we could try. I've discussed this with her, and she has previously only used destructive coping skills. So, anything would be appreciated. Thanks so much.

Nikki

Re: Coping Skills for Voices?

Stardigan, I bet you love your job. I was always amazed at people with sz, how civil and kind they were, at least most of them. And I remember fondly all the times I had with them. I use to use humor with them and got good responses, and you might want to try to incorporate some gentle humor into dealing with their voices. If you can be amused with something, you gain a lot of distance from it.
