Memory and Learning problems

Hello Everyone!

I was diagnosed with schizophrenia on December 2004. After that I was on medication... after several months of medication (5 months to be exact) I began to experience a severe cognitive problem. I have difficulty reading or understanding what I read. I problems with understanding things that are delivered verbally. I have difficulty recalling events two-weeks and earlier before that. I have to ask my friends and relatives what happened before I can recall. I became obsessive compulsive at some things. I also became less active. 5 months after... I requested my doctor that I stop the medication. Then I was no longer in medication... everythings seems to went back to normal except for my memory problems and obsessive compulsiveness... 1 year and 2 months after I had a sever episode again... I have no choice I have to return to medication... For the first 2-3 months I was doing OK I can still study and focus. But after that I become very sleepy all I do is sleep and I sleep at work a lot. 2-3 hours from night's sleep I still become sleepy. I have change my medication. But it did not work. Then went back to the original medication but it did not work... then dosage was lessen I felt better but my cognitive problems got worst. I can no longer remember things 1 week before. I can think of something but it will be seconds or minutes after. I had a problem understanding what I read. I became more obsessive compulsive and had a hard time putting things on my mind.

Now my question are:
1.) Are the problems I am experiencing due to my illness or due to my medication?

2.) Is these common to schizophrenics?

3.) Are there schizophrenics not taking medication experiencing these?

Hope to hear from the experienced and the veterans in this forum.

Thanks a lot in advanced!
