What's your good antipsychotic?

I've been taking geodon and have to stop because of the sideaffects. I can't take abilfy either and I was wondering what's good out there that doesn't cause real bad weight gain.

Thank you!

Re: What's your good antipsychotic?

Thank you so much for your reply. I saw my psychiatrist yesterday and he kept me on the geodon and added cogentin to firght off the sideaffects. It has its sideaffects too but not nearly as bad as the other ones.

I lost 50lbs with geodon. It just keeps me from eating alot. I told my pdoc that and since the others cause weight gain he decided to keep me on the geodon and add the cogentin (I call it the sideaffect pill)

Heres hoping everybody can eat right. It's terrible having this disease, and then we have to take dangerous meds. Oh yea, my pdoc said all meds might make some hungry and that it all depends on the person. That's the case with all psychotropics. As we all know, I'm sure

Re: What's your good antipsychotic?

I am on the lowest dosage for geodon - 20 mg twice a day. I take it at 6 am and 6pm. I still have side effects but in general they are bareable.

I mention this because I believe taking a lower dosage can help alleviate some side effects and you may not have to take co'mgentin. For me, cogentin gave very bad constipation. I could not handle it. but on 20mg twice a day, I am able to go 90 percent of the time without any side effects. 10 percent of the time, I have some side effects that I can sleep off. Also, I recently changed my regimen to taking 20mg at noon and 20 mg at 10p.m. this way I can stay awake for most of the daytime. I get sleepy from the meds at about 5 or 6 hours from the time I take the med. By taking the med at noon and 10 p.m. I'm asleep at 6p.m. -8p.m. and midnight to 7 a.m.
